I downloaded and ran GRPViewer but the resultant grp file would not be recognized by EDuke. This is what I did. Copied the duke3d.grp file to a folder, opened GRPViewer, Opened the grp file, extracted the User.con file to a folder. Used notepad to change one item (as a test - health from 100 to 150), saved file. GPRViewer was still open with the grp file. I removed the User.con file, then inserted the updated User.con file. I then clicked the save button and the file was saved.
I then replaced the old grp file with the new one, ran EDuke and when the startup screen came up, no grp file was found. Put the old grp file back in, ran EDuke and it found the file no problem.
So question is did I do this right? Should I have saved the grp file after removing the User. con file and then inserted the new one? Or did I do everything right and for whatever odd reason it just didn't work??
Thanks.
Yeah, you broke the group file by replacing the file inside. All you have to do to run custom user cons is drop them in the same directory as the exe/grp or you can put them in a sub-folder and have eduke32 check that for custom files via the start-up window.
