Games close to DNF that actually exist

So DNF isn't coming anytime soon, what are the alternatives?

There must be similar games out there, interactivity, babes, humor and violence.

What are the current best DNF-like games?

Well, these days pretty much all games are tired, loud, shiny, obnoxious things that are over-hyped and under-deliver. So take your pick - all games are like Duke if you look at it that way.

^what they said.

You need to be more specific about "DNF-like". Are we talking about straight arcade shooter with aliens and a sarcastic PC? Or a game that never got released?

I agree with The Commander, Duke Nukem 3D is the closest Related Game to DNF that we will ever play. Unless it gets finished & released. :)

I didn't like Sin much personally but yeah it's kindof Duke-ish in a way.

Very similar - both are dead franchises. :)

That is not true, the Duke franchise is not dead. DNF != the Duke franchise. Sin was such a great game, much much much more Duke like than that silly franchise that often gets compared to Duke but that is superficially similar at best.(It is like comparing Monty Python to Lethal Weapon).

I was more specifiec about DNF-Like.

I'm talking FPS that are actually more than a boring story and shooting enemies. I'm talking about humor, useless interactivity, babes and violence. Creating an FPS like that is basically a win-win. Why do companies keep making the same boring crap?

Currently GTA is probably closest. Postal 3 is on the way but probably just as 'meh' as Postal 2.

So, no decent alternatives then...

Creating useless interectavity is too much work. And it's not worth that amount of work for many developers since it doesn't impact the core gameplay and story.

Btw, Deus Ex had pretty good interactivity.

maybe little offtopic, but modern warfare 2 has really awesome trailer, i think it tops DNF 2001 trailer :)

Interactivity makes the game replayable and more fun. If you do it right people will find out ways to to the craziest stuff. Look at the pigeons in GTA.

And yeah, maybe Duke3D is the closest, but come on, we've all played it a hundred times and I want something new.

Play mods and user maps. TBH, I haven´t touched the original DN3D maps for years.

How is GTA similar to Duke...?

edit: And yeah, SiN (the first one, haven't played Episodes yet) is probably the closest thing to a new Duke game I've played.

Strip clubs, awesome night life environments like Vegas, and the general awesome feel of what I would expect from DNF.

Saints Row 2 comes to mind, you got a potty-mouthed main character, strippers in your cribs, casinos to play in, many interactive areas where you can blow up anything (Mayhem really makes this shine)...so yeah, it's a tie between GTA IV and SR2 when it comes to "open world" type games that'll make like DNF. Hell, with the customization you have in SR2, you could even create Duke Nukem as your main character, I'm thinking of doing that right now.

Hell yeah, that's what I'm talking about! Duke was a thug in Stilwater before being called in to waste alien scum instead. Duke in the Row may have made a good prequel, if it were made by 3DR instead of Volition.

What about Prey? It has an alien invasion, talking main character, futuristic weapons... of course it's only like Duke to a certain extent.

It gave me the same headache that all ID tech 4 games give me. I think this is because of 3 reasons: the graphics try to be realistic but doesn't quite make it, apart from switches there's almost no interactivity (nothing seems to be destructible like in Duke) and instead of fighting lots of weaker enemies, you tend to fight only a small amount of tough enemies. Of course you can say this about pretty much all modern games.
