EDuke32 no longer runs Duke Xtreme  "launcher freezes and then crashes"

EDuke32 seems to have stopped supporting Duke Xtreme at some point in time.

I recently pulled some files from an old laptop and found an EDuke32 build from 2017 that runs Duke Xtreme with no issues. However, the latest build from 2026-08-07 crashes: the launcher freezes for a few seconds and then simply closes. I checked the logs and see no error messages. I'm using the following command to start Duke Xtreme as the wiki instructs:

eduke32 -jDKXTRM\PACK14 -jDKXTRM\SPMAPS -jDKXTRM\DMMAPS

It's not clear if this is a regression, or if support for Duke Xtreme was dropped.

I know some community members have updated Duke Xtreme to make it compatible with modern source ports, but I'd still like to get it to work on EDuke32 if possible.
