Hi guys, I thought I'd share my first public mod here. This mod adds Duke's famous "I've got balls of steel!" quote so that it plays when interacting with the pinball machine in E1L1 "Hollywood Holocaust" and Nuclear Winter's E2L2 "Where It All Began".
Download: https://www.moddb.co...pinball-machine
To install it, simply extract the .zip contents directly into your eDuke32 installation folder. Note that this includes custom USER.CON and NWUSER.CON files; if you already are using such custom .CON files you can omit the ones I provide and simply add the following line to both files:
definesound 805 common/sounds/balls_of_steel.wav 0 0 255 4 0
Then on USER.CON:
definelevelname 0 0 common/maps/E1L1.map 01:45 00:53 HOLLYWOOD HOLOCAUST
And NWUSER.CON:
definelevelname 1 1 nwinter/maps/E2L2.map 04:45 02:18 WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
A few notes about this audio clip:
A lot of people believe the quote comes from Duke Nukem 3D, but this is not true. The origin seems to be a pinball game called "Balls of Steel" that was released on 1997 for Windows 95 (see https://dukenukem.fa.../Balls_of_Steel). The game included several "tables", one of which was Duke Nukem-themed and featured audio clips from the original Duke3D alongside new voice recordings by Jon St. John, including the "balls of steel" quote. Newer versions of this game (such as the one found on Steam) don't feature any Duke-related content, probably for licensing reasons (thanks Randy).
For this mod I dug out a .iso of the original 1997 game and extracted the bos.wav file from it. I then slightly lowered its volume and bit-crushed it so that it sounds closer to the Duke3D voice clips. I also provide the original file (balls_of_steel_original.wav) as a bonus for those of you playing the cursed Randy version with higher-quality voice clips.
