Lmao what the fuck room is Carmack sitting in? The guy is worth millions and he's in a tiny, totally barren room like he just moved into a new apartment.

I would expect someone who is so into mathematics to really be into simplification, funnily enough.

Almost shared the video in the DooM thread earlier although it is about other games. Was cool to see HD footage of the lost Commander Keen game (unless my memory is playing tricks, so far I had only seen questionable/low-res glimpses of it), remember how early picturing the progressive physical damage to the player in first-person games goes (it's something I loved Robinson's Requiem explored so thoroughly back then), and hear reminiscence of how just textured walls used to seem fabulous.

Also low-key adorably cheeky of Romero to drop this just 48 hours after the Apogee Duke 30th year clip dropped. 'Yeah guys I'll shill for your shit I don't care, I have something of my own coming up just next to clear the air about who's boss'.

I found the part where they discussed the easy road of making more Keen games vs. pushing the technology because of a single moment with Adrian particularly interesting. That's some auteur stuff.

Also somehow despite playing C3D, I never really connected the dots between the player's portrait and it carrying over onto Blazkowicz, Doomguy and Ranger. I knew the three of them were connected that way but I somehow never considered C3D part of that same lineage. In fact I think that sums up my thoughts in general. How enlightening this was.

Glad to see this was finally made public. It initially was only available via purchase of Catacomb 3D Shallow Grave/Stone Tomb/Ancient Vault Editions found on Romero's website.
