Hello,

You are receiving this email because you have purchased in the past a copy of Ion Fury from the 3D Realms online store.

After the release of Ion Fury’s expansion pack, Aftershock, we have received messages from some of you that you would like to purchase the game and continue Shelly’s adventure against Dr. Heskel! Since the 3D Realms store is not compatible anymore for distributing any of our titles, we have decided to offer a free Steam or GOG code to each one of you who purchased Ion Fury through our online store. This way, you can unlock the game on either Steam or GOG and purchase Ion Fury: Aftershock through these stores. In addition to the free key, we have decided to offer you a free copy of the “Making of Ion Fury” Artbook.

Those of you who are interested in receiving an Ion Fury key and the Artbook, please respond to this email.

Kind Regards,

ngl, this looks sus.
Either a scam, or 3DR is pulling some b.s. to undercut Aftershock sales during the steam summer sales event.
I could be wrong, though.

These are legitimate and done since the 3DR store doesn't sell Aftershock and didn't offer a path that didn't require players to re-buy the base game (gog/steam do not offer dlc-only).

I can only assume the site will be read-only down the line and this is the very least to say "thanks" for supporting us through a platform that many picked specifically to give us bigger cut in the end at the exchange of risks like these.
It just took way too long compared to what is ideal to offer an alternative but it's there now.. This has been a longer struggle/push as it was always supposed to be there during launch.... Anyway.. I'm just glad we have at least some options now.

I can recommend taking up the offer and at least you'll get a free artbook as a bonus if you didn't get one from the big box before, along with a spare key that we assume will be used in good faith.

I assume the artbook is in some electronic format like PDF, right? I certainly wouldn't want to trouble anyone or incur the expense of mailing it out to me.

It's a 237 mb pdf file.

Interesting premise of reading a top secret document with some text redacted out with blocks of black lines.

As for the game code, guess I should have specified GoG. I was assuming they were going to follow up with an option to chose, but they sent me a steam key by default. I already own the Ion Maiden on steam.

@oasiz - maybe i can pass the key on to you and the dev team can do some kind of giveaway on your discord channel.

Thanks for the offer but we have a button that's basically steam keygen :)
Just do what you want with it I guess.

so it's okay to give it to somebody?
asking before I do that.
Otherwise I'll just throw it out.

For me, GOG was the only place where I hadn't purchased IF at all so far, so I had asked for that. Consequently, they gave me a code for the base game. Not for the DLC apparently, if I understood the mail correctly (GOG offline installer version is 3.0.0.9 after redeeming the code):

We are offering a code for the base game so you will be able to purchase the DLC if you want to.

For me it's OK either way. At the end of the day, I didn't need it that badly since in total, I am already owning the game twice (3DR base / Steam base + DLC), but hey, it's for free. Who would want to complain about that? B)

No, you just misunderstood the intent a little bit. The offer doesn't give you Aftershock, what it does is provides a free key on the platform of your choice (Steam or GOG) for the base game so that you could then be able to purchase Aftershock. This is being offered in this way because people that had purchased the digital download version from the 3D Realms online store didn't have any way to purchase Aftershock if they wanted it... Whether purchased through Steam or GOG, the user needed to have the base game via the platform that they were purchasing from installed as a prerequisite in order to purchase/install Aftershock, but those that bought from the 3DR store didn't have either, so they wouldn't have been able to buy Aftershock ~ but now they can.

What's weird to me is that they already sent me a steam key years ago for whatever reason. I think it was because the boxed copies were delayed but can't be 100% on that, nor can I remember what I did with the key - I know I pirated the game, given I technically owned it but didn't want to use Steam - probably passed it to someone else.

The whole format of the e-mail is weird. It doesn't come across as legitimate even though it apparently is. Of course in this day and age, there's every possibility a computer wrote it instead of a human, plus most humans now seem totally illiterate so it might be a combination of both; an incompetent human¹ who employed the help of a computer when writing it. Even the mailbox name just feels dubious, though, just for how it's written. We know this isn't the case, but still, it really does just give that impression at first glance.

¹Imagine that, incompetence being attached to something associated with Nu-Realms.

Wait, they gave a free artbook? Where can I get it? Can it be shared? I already have the game on steam and dlc so asking for a key seems superfluous. Also I never got the email.

Did you ever purchase the DRM free digital download version of the game directly from the 3D Realms online store? The email, and the offer, is only applicable to those that purchased the game that way. Anyone that had purchased the game through Steam or GOG were already able to purchase the Aftershock odd-on, but customers that made their purchase through the 3D Realms online store were not, so this offer makes it possible for them to do so by granting them access to the game on one of the platforms where Aftershock may be purchased from.

Nope. I only bought the games directly from Steam and GOG. So I suppose there is no cool digital artbook for poor little me? Aw man...

Talking about things that are missing, does anybody know what is the situation with the console version of Ion Fury? Is it stuck on version 1 forever? :(
