Forgive for being completely out of the loop, but are these Windows ports mentioned in the quote based on the original code?

A little bit of DREAMM-related news: Digital Eclipse is releasing their "Tetris Forever" collection today, which features many different versions of Tetris, including a couple of early DOS versions... which are running on top of (a slightly modified) DREAMM! 🙂 https://youtu.be/aJ2xZrJTcnI

I didn't realise DREAMM was something that could be used by other developers, makes sense

That link was a very interesting read. Thanks! The whole Programming section is interesting, even for a layman like me.

Somehow I forgot to post this from about two weeks ago

Yesterday Aaron followed it up with this

I asked Aaron if multiplayer would work between games running in DREAMM and games running outside of it.

Depends. If the game uses raw sockets (like Outlaws winsock driver) then yes. However, games that use DirectPlay speak their own protocol. The protocol is documented, and I have implemented an approximation of it, but it's not compatible with the real thing.

After a bit of chatter on the Discord, I've decided that the next DREAMM version will be 4.0. This was based on the fact that since 3.0 came out I've added support for:

networking (both winsock and DirectPlay)
movie playback (both QuickTime and AVI)
Direct3D Retained Mode
far more complete scripting
nearly a dozen new games (covering the full LEC catalog up to 2000, including Lucas Learning)
Which seems like enough to warrant a full version bump.

Hoping to get some early alpha testing in January, with betas in February-March depending on how things go.

Oh, nice, he's going through that era of Star Wars games now. Even in Wine, I know like three of those have issues running and a few others have trouble even after.

DREAMM 4.0 is now in beta

An exciting new feature is nukeykt's SC55 emulator (without using loopmidi or similar). To use it you need to import the roms for a compatible sc55 model, do so by opening the options menu from the launcher, then click tools and Manage Soundfonts and ROMs. Now you can just drop the SC55 roms on the DREAMM window and they will install. Then select General MIDI on a game that supports it (off my head, Sam & Max Hit the Road, DOTT, Dark Forces and the DOS versions of X-Wing and Tie Fighter do)
