#1 Posted 14 November 2023 - 10:38 PM
WG LADY KILLER
My own rendition of the DNF2001 Lady Killer, using assets from DNF2001.
Also has some "The shinning" vibes and easter eggs.
This level is the conclusion to the WGMEGA pack.
Play from the episode 5 slot.
Takes around 15-20 minutes to pass.
Has difficulty settings and requires eduke32.
Story....
After almost complete annihilation across the Galaxy and the great Realms the alien lords sent their last remaining army to destroy Dukes Lady Killer Casino, destroying the thing he loves the most.
Your mission is to kill the last of the alien army, free the casino, then fly back to the EDF Command Center for further instructions.

Swell map! Took me 21 minutes, but missed all secrets
I loved the art direction in this map, It really captures the bright and busy vibe of nighttime Vegas, and the creepiness of the horror sections.
Gameplay was pretty. Not too difficult, although the drones traps caught me good.
By the way, I might be stupid, but I didn't find Room 5. Is it a secret? Maybe a reference that flew over my head?
Also,
That's a BIIIIIIG handle!!! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

TBH that was a mistake on my behalf, when I removed a room I must of forgotten to fix the room numbers.
I guess its just a weird thing in the map now.

Thanks Dr.Panico, my goal was a rainy, creepy night time in Vegas.
Adding the art so it looked good was a big job but worth it.

Just finished this and thoroughly enjoyed it. Some of the best use of custom art and sounds I have seen in a map; it really looks great. It took me about 45 minutes because I kept forgetting where the keycard doors were and had to backtrack a lot. Gameplay was well-suited to the level, would have been easy if I had found the devastator and some secrets but was well-balanced for those of us bad at finding stuff.
I think this would be getting more reactions but there's somewhat of a barrier to entry as the player has to download the whole pack and "install" it (even though that is pretty easy it is enough to stop some people).

Thanks Dan, glad you enjoyed the map.
I'm not sure how you missed the devastator, specially since you backtracked a lot. There are 3 devastators none of them in secrets and all out in the open, 2 sitting on roulette tables and the other one on the drinks bar.
Overall I think this is my easiest level, apart from the house level with no enemies.

I checked my last save file and I did actually have it by the end. I know I got a lot of ammo for it first and didn't have it for a while. Guess I picked it up after that and stopped checking for it. I was pretty distracted with other stuff going on when playing but I enjoyed the map nonetheless

Video up, showcasing all secrets. A few odds twists with the Shining references and WG Realms references, but it was a cool ride none the less.

Although now on your thumbnail I see a stretched texture on the outside of the casino.

This map is an absolutely fantastic piece of work! The blend of new textures, TROR and great design just works wonders. It absolutely sells the location, both the Las Vegas backdrop and the casino itself.
My favorite bit was the 'Shining' section, the fact that it's not just an easter egg but an entire section makes it even better.
The combat starts easy but there are some spice fights towards the end. I especially like the combo of battlelords and sentry drones, it really forces you to think quick and stay on your feet.
Overall this map is highly recommended!

The best compliment I can give here is I just wanted more. I loved the aesthetic, and each room was so well done that I just wanted more to happen just to spend more time with it. Really solid.
