Tempest Rising (3DRealms RTS) corner

I haven't seen this discussed anywhere here, but this is made in the same universe as Ion Fury (!) and basically a remarkably strong (read: not poor copycat) attempt to revive the Command and Conquer series.

https://store.steamp...Tempest_Rising/

I rarely play new games, but fingers crossed on this one.

What happens in Fury/Aftershock is something we kind of made up ourselves so Tempest is whatever 3DR does :)
Close enough though, just that i have no clue what stuff we have retconned or they plan to retcon as we don't work very closely.

Getting a proper new C&C game is something I've been waiting for though..

There are some vague similarities in art styles though, somehow I see Ion Fury's vibrant, comic book like palette in this game, but maybe I read too much into it.

Regarding the similarities with C&C, I wouldn't be surprised if EA takes action, and either C&D the game (which would be a dumb move imho), or putting their filthy hands on it, and demand the title to be changed to C&C: Tempest Rising. But I hope I'm wrong. Even the new source is kinda similar to Tiberian Sun's veinholes, it even has similar effects. And not to mention the other aspects.

Probably... Phantom has a bit of that as well. I guess it makes sense when our game is kind of why the franchise is still a thing :D
But Cage is the one who is responsible for our art. We share no devteam beyond maybe Arturo who has been doing modelling, albeit mostly on his own.
It's a cool style. Cage is awesome.

I know there are fans of Ion inside the studio though as I visited them in Denmark earlier this year during my yurotrip and chatted a bunch.
But anyway...

It's very close to C&C, yes, but it's not like the first time C&C has been cloned in the past.
I don't think there is much they can do as long as no copyright, IP or lore is being utilized.

There is a lot of potential.

When was the last time when we got this close to a classic 90s style RTS like Starcraft or C&C? I mean outside of SC2 of course.

I have seen a lot of footage, and other than second rate attempts like those 8 bit whatevers, I can't remember a single one. With an actual campaign with story, assymetrical factions, production values.

It certainly looks quite good judging from the screenshots. I haven't seen too many RTS games in recent years so this should be interesting.

I like the idea of reviving C&C, but I'm not digging the "modern" graphics.

I heard of the project before, but I did not realise this is in the same universe as Ion Fury.

I don't think we will ever see a beautiful 2D artwork ever again in an RTS, like in Starcraft, TibSun or RA2. It's shame, but the art here is pretty close to SC2 and Tiberium Wars, they aren't bad references.

I hope we get a strong, memorable storyline, RTS games are nothing without them.

PS: I've never played AoE, somehow it never interested me, maybe one day.

There are currently at least two projects that consciously mimic the original C&C art style:
D.O.R.F. Real-Time Strategic Conflict
Dying Breed

There is also an OpenRA-based free game called Fractured Realms, which is more like Tiberian Sun and uses voxel vehicles.

As for StarCraft, there's this old and pretty small but playable game called Priority: Survive. The art style is very similar to StarCraft and quite good overall. Unfortunately, it does not work properly on modern Windows or through Wine on Linux, and I've not found a way to fix that.

I'm not buying it now, wait for final release and gameplay videos to get proper impression. It looks nice and all, but maybe it's a bit too generic?
