Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition - Special Edition?  "Weird Parental-Lock-Locked Version"

#1

I was just at a flea market and picked up a copy of Duke 3D Atomic I hadn't seen before, titled the "Special Edition". It has the same user guide and installation, but once you get to the game itself, it says "This is a special edition Parental Lock-enabled version with all adult content removed" or something like that.

Basically, it has the parental lock turned on all the time and no way to turn it off. The adult content is still there in the game .GRP itself though, and if I simply switch the executable with regular Atomic Edition you can see the adult content. Anyone know anything about this, where it came from, etc? Looks like something Wal-Mart would have done back in the day.

:D yeah it sounds like it, or the German one. But finding such a thing in an American flea market in the south sold by a guy name Dave with a confederate flag shirt? ... probably not an import

Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition was never censored in Australia, the so-called "Special Edition" is a version made for WalMart or something as said above.

Ah ok. Well, still Australia always bans and censors games.

Not nearly as much as Germany, but yeah it's an issue. Carmageddon 1 & 2 were released uncut here, but not in the land of our Nazi friends for example.

Actually, I think the Australian Version came with a forced parental lock, but 3DR released a patch for it.

As I said, Duke3D did, Atomic Edition didn't.
