Need help with running DNF 2001 on win98 PC

Hi everyone!
Since I have a period correct retro PC that can run DNF 2001 I wanted to try it out there. So I followed all steps for extracting the files. I have put MegaPatch in October build and have put dnGame.u file in System which is required if you want objectives running.

So my pc specs are:
Intel Pentium III Tualatin 1266mhz
384 mb SD RAM
Radeon 9000 64mb
HDD 60 gb
Windows 98 SE with DirectX9

This should run Duke without a problem but when I start up Duke it is stuck in windowed mode and the whole menu is in artifacts. The reason I used MegaPatch in the first place is because it fixes the bugs that crash the game when playing normally which I want to avoid. Can anyone help me in this situation to get DNF running on win98 correctly?

To change the windowed and fullscreen resolutions and toggle automatic fullscreen, edit the \Players\Duke\DukeForever.ini file. Not sure what to do about the artifacts...

Maybe try omitting the Wine related files from the Mega Patch. I don't think these will work natively on older OS like Windows 98 given the version provided (5.3.0) was seemingly released in around 2014-2015.

Yeah happened to me also on my WinME PC. The patch made it unplayable.
But without any patches it works well overall besites 1 crash so far.

Could graphical artifacts be because of some Direct 8 rendering file changes from Mega Patch? If I remove them from patch would that perhaps fix it or is something else in play here. Because I want to play with fixed stuff and as Duke himself of course.

Oh yeah. These DirectX 8 file edits are definitely present in MegaPatch even though DirectX 8 file fixes are available as a separate patch. I'll test it without those files copied with Megapatch and I'll send the results.

Off the top of my head, I assume you already deleted the existing wrapper files like d3d8.dll, d3d8.on12.dll, d3d8.wine.dll, wined3d.dll etc. Also, if you still have graphics issues, I would suggest trying another wrapper like this d3d8 to d3d9 wrapper: https://github.com/crosire/d3d8to9
