It's interesting to me that Scott Miller has recently
posted a writeup clearing up confusion about what and who Apogee is at this point. He says the rights to the Apogee name reverted back to him and 3DR is now a completely separate entity. An excerpt:
Quote
Then, last year two key things changed:
[1] The rights to the Apogee name were returned to myself and my Apogee partner, Terry Nagy. Apogee was then renamed to Apogee Entertainment.
[2] Later in the year, 3D Realms was purchased by the Embracer Group.
So, now I'm no longer with the Denmark group, and the people running and managing the new 3D Realms currently have no connection to the past history of Apogee. You won't find their name in any credits for games from the 90's or 2000's, and they had nothing to do with the making or the release of any of those classic hit games.
It sounds like he saw what was coming and wanted no part of it and wanted to get ahead of this to make it clear who Apogee is (him) and that he is not involved with anything to do with 3DR anymore. Just as well. He was always better at pushing indies anyway. So if what you say is true, does that mean the ROTT remaster is now in the hands of Scott?
Also, he mentions that Descent was a 3DR title before they sold it to Interplay. I didn't know this. That's pretty cool. Apogee and Scott Miller had a hand in so much of the best of gaming back then.
