Bloodshot did you play in the Wicked Game Server back in the day?
#752 Posted 30 November 2013 - 08:34 PM
If it wasn't an onslaught or vctf server i doubt it, I used to stick pretty heavily to UT99 online for pretty much any other mode.
I do recall playing a lot on a UT99 strangelove ctf server way back, I loved riding the nukes through the custom maps that were designed like race courses

Wicked Game Server was CTF for 2003 and VCTF for 2004. All of my fondest memories of playing online were in that server. UT2003 was my first exposure to online gaming and WGS was the most fun I've ever had playing a game online. I miss it to death. CVROY was the best server admin ever, that server was his passion and he was the nicest guy to talk to.
UT99 is still my favorite online game though. The server you're mentioning is probably wHarthog's Pigpen, which is the best custom UT99 server IMO.

Here in Brazil they changed some of the sprites of the Wonder Boy games to match a popular brazilian comic.
Spoiler
#757 Posted 12 December 2013 - 11:50 PM
lol what? never knew about them. If you run the normal wonderboy rom in Japanese monsters and bosses have extra health, it surprises me some of the region only software
should revive wonderboy, work well with leaderboard systems, its a sit down and finish it in one go type of game.

Postal 2 got a pretty hefty 1.2gb update on Steam which adds some stuff from mods into the base game and generally improves the whole game.

Just beat Q3
on nightmare
I don't suggest anyone do that against the final boss unless you want to feel like slamming somebody's face through a wall

So I downloaded Batman Arkham City, and despite the recommendations and favorable reviews, I didn't like it. I didn't made it past the first part because the fighting scenes are automated, and all you need to do is press a single button. Are modern games like that?
I mean, it feels like playing Street Fighter but that all movement are performed with a single button, and that button also automatically moves your character towards the opponents. Literally. Maybe that's the reason GTA is one of the few modern games I like, you need to aim the guns.

Quake 1 had the best physics for playing CTF with a grappling hook

Yep, I was just referring to how accurately they recreated the player physics
I really fucking wish 1.0 with all the weapon animations would come out already.

I have been waiting for that for ages, I wonder what could be taking them so long.

Last time I talked with one of the devs on youtube, it seemed to be the age old dilemma of real life getting in the way.
I wish I could register at their site though, every time I do it says I need to wait for an admin to approve my account, and nobody ever does - I've had several others try it to the same effect as well.
Hell, I'd be willing to help if I could actually get to post on their forums.
I think they should release a public beta for it, it would be a great way to show off how much better it is, and maybe even attract new talent for some help with the final release. Though I doubt they'd do that.

I think Quake 1 is one of the few games I've seen where the fan-made HD stuff not only doesn't suck, but kicks all kinds of ass.
It's especially surprising considering Doom has a considerably larger following, and this was the main Doom "HD" stuff:

What mods did you use, bloodshot?
I only know the Quake Reforged Project but the grunts look like dolls. Yours looks better.

Darkplaces with the Quake Retexturing Project + Quake Reforged + various model replacements released on the forums + Small mod compilation + reflecting overload + softshadows enabled ("r_shadow_shadowmapping 1" in console i think) and POM + Parallax offset mapping enabled.
I could probably upload a pack of the models and packs since some of them like the grunt/enforcer/shambler/vore are buried in the forums (not the textures though they are way too large).

So I bought Rise Of The Triad (2013) from the Steam sale, and erm...
Holy SHIT this game is fun. It's the most fun I've had playing a first-person shooter in a while... that's really saying something.
I know what I'll be doing for the next few weeks, that's for sure.

Here's a pack of some of the smaller mods I was using (enemy, weapon, item models, gameplay tweaks, sound mods, etc.) for Quake

Started working on something for Quake 3/Generations

Finished Soldier of Fortune 2 recently. Good game but not as solid as the first one. The stealth sections, especially the first one which results in an instant failure if you're spotted, sucked balls. The later ones aren't as bad since you can't fail them (instead you'll have to survive an onslaught of enemies) but they were still annoying because of the fact that trying to sneak in this game is almost impossible. Trying to assassinate a lone soldier, even if you think that you're not being seen, will magically turn on the alarm resulting in every fucking enemy in that section to instantly react and move to your location knowing exactly where you are and throw grenades at your feet even though you're quiet as a mouse.
Regardless of the shitty stealth system the game is fun and the combat is amazingly satisfying.

Somebody made a WON-styled theme for Black Mesa's menu, so I took it one step further using an animation somebody made a while ago (with the same purpose), and added the button click sounds
Here was the result:
