Shadow Warrior Upscale Pack

Now that VoidSW's public beta and WangGDX are out, I can release my upscale pack for the game.

All enemies have been upscaled, along with weapon sprites and a large amount of graphical effects and level decorations. This includes the new enemies from Wanton Destruction and Twin Dragon

Nice!

Excerpt from wanggdx.log:
Loading swupscale.def...
Yoffset value out of range. Value: "129" was disabled.
Yoffset value out of range. Value: "135" was disabled.
Yoffset value out of range. Value: "128" was disabled.
Yoffset value out of range. Value: "135" was disabled.

VoidSW does not complain.

Your upscales keep getting better and better! Have you used any novel models for these? (I believe there was something for faces that you tried, or did you just get Lo Wang's face from the animations?)

Here's an image of the workflow from the initial upscales to the final version.

The top left has a frame from the intro video edited in (which was upscaled using PixelityFaces), this was used for several frames and run through motion estimation to create the result to the right of it, this was combined with the initial upscale, before being downscaled and palettised.

Nice work with upscaling! I would say this method works best for games that have sprites made with only very slight edits from their 3D models sources like Shadow Warrior and Redneck Rampage or Witchhaven.
Effect on Duke 3D and Blood is bit questionable for me thought. (I like that "grainy cartoony comic book" style of those sprites and this makes them feel more "plastic". Especially in case of Duke 3D, where it reminds me of its PSX port sprites.)
Could you release separate pack with only edited monsters and weapons?

What tools do you use for your upscales and what is your process?

I was thinking about trying to do some upscales for Wolf3D.

Sure, I'm not putting it on my moddb though because I don't want to clutter it https://www.sendspace.com/file/qm8qix

Thank you, now I noticed a screwup I made... which fortunately affected a sprite that appears not to be used ;)

Edit: Wait, apparently it is used, just that I screwed up the transparency (which isn't even meant to be there) so the upscaled sprite is invisible, but only in certain palswaps

Thanks for that separate pack. It just have one little glitch - both sword and riot gun seem to have wrong offsets. They are displayed as too narrow.

That reminds me, if it was long overdue for change of my signature! ;)
