Look like Capstone "The Pinnacle of Incompetence" finally did something decend and salvaged something from the situation, prior to their death...

Every time Civvie starts talking about Crapstone Software or Randy Pitchford, you know it's gonna be good.
but i gotta say, i found the lack of Gordon Ramsay clips disturbing.

My friend got this game. We were all like "this is going to be like Heretic meets Duke Nukem 3D - Yee hah!"

Man, when we loaded it up, the level of disappointment, betrayal and horror was life changing.

For decades I've been struggling to convey the bowel loosening terror of that day. Thank God Civvie was able to warn future generations against this plague on our senses!

I can't wait if he ever do the sequel...

Sounds like nice "torture" for him. ;)

I had no idea there were build games before Duke. I thought 3DRealms discovered Ken Silverman.

There's also Rock 'n Shaolin, aka Legend of the 7 Paladins. People try not to talk about that one, for good reason. Silverman also made a different shooter before making the Build Engine, called Ken's Labyrinth. Published by Epic MegaGames before he later made it freeware IIRC.

Yes. You basically wander around a city for 15 minutes until you kill the right guy, repeat 7 times. Then go into some eye-searing abomination of level design they call cyberspace. I cannot imagine how Civvie managed to play through that. I genuinely think he was the only person to ever finish it.

This user finished the game eight years ago. I also play the game from start to end once at year, just to remember my childhood. ;)

The only problem I had with TekWar back in the day is that I didn't know how to end the Matrix level. Before watching the mentioned walkthrough, I never known I had to place each symbol inside those special chambers.

I'm not sure if it has been already mentioned here in the forums, but Witchaven and Witchaven II are now available from GOG:
https://www.gog.com/game/witchaven
https://www.gog.com/...blood_vengeance

I actually never before really bothered to play the Witchaven demo to any extent, so I decided to try it out. Turns out it's quite playable, through some very constructive trial and error. I have not figured if you can save the game mid-level, but it's okay as it is. Combat is not as clunky as I thought it would be. Still there are those odd traps and homing fireballs, but it adds to the trial-and-error experience. If you bring up the wireframe map, it shows all doors in red so you can more or less easily find secret passages.

There are some cool details as well, like sometimes you can catch a goblin idly standing, and as soon as it notices you it grabs its sword and shield from the floor and rushes at you. It's just a few extra frames of animation, but they do contribute to the style. I haven't run into any particularly stunning scenery if there is any at all, but the level design seems adequate for the time period. (Mind though that these are first impressions from playing halfway through the first level.)

In case of doubt, here's Civvie's stamp of approval.

The first one randomly popped on my discovery queue a few minutes ago, my reaction was "WAIT WHAT".
