custom DNF details for the HRP  "DNF-ish gloves and crosshair"

hey everyone,

ever since i saw the 2001 Duke Nukem Forever trailer, i started to like those fingerless gloves more and more.

I wanted to modify the textures in the high resolution model pack, but came across one problem: since the hands were not supposed to have gloves in the first place, they're all cut up and skewed in the UV maps. However, i've made some mock-ups of how the game would look with DNF-style gloves and replaced the regular crosshair with one that looks similar to what i saw in those Jace Hall videos.

Let me know what you think. Note that i went a bit overboard with the size of the nuke and the right freezethrower arm is not modified. I couldn't mod the pipebomb hands right.

If enough people want this implemented in their game, i'll try to figure out how to modify the textures properly to fit the model. :)

Love that gold-plated desert eagle. Would've preferred platinum-plated, but gold'll do just fine.

The glove's a bit blurry, but I think they look better than the bare HRP hands :)

Next step: replacing the word "HEALTH" with "EGO".

The gloves should be more black rather than blue and the logo should be smaller im my opinion.

It needs a real Desert Eagle as well (not a big problem really :) )

Someone said that we should make a 'DNF Mod' as it seems highly unlikely that we are going to see the 'real deal' within 3 years - if at all.

This will all look a lot more credible when we get the next-gen features (normal and spec maps) on the models.

I agree, although I think a darker blue would be better than black.


What is the scope of this project, exactly? Would it include anything besides the modified pistol, gloves and crosshair?

with all the cool innovations on top of the good old fashioned DN3D i think that would come out great. And in less time too.

i don't really know. All changes were done on a whim, i wanted to see if anyone else liked them and if it'd be worth trying to figure out how to map them properly. I didn't plan out anything, i'll most likely change some things in the HUD or some minor stuff like that to give it more of a DNF feel, but gameplay-wise i don't think i'll change anything. Though those 3 freezeballs from the freezethrower alternate fire look a lot like the projectiles in the Battlelord fight in the new leaked footage... :)

i'll try to make some more mock-ups and see how far i can go with the textures on the maps in the HRP. I want to make a 2001-style version too.

If we have next gen game features, there is nothing to stop people making a next-gen game :)

Remaking DNF (or just making it at this juncture) is probably going to be kinda out of anyones scope. But I think it was Parkar who suggested making a couple of levels based around one of the casino levels. Sounds like that, or one of the dam levels (lots of corridors and machinery with monsties jumping out at you), would be a cool project.

i made a glove for the shotgun, but obviously there's a little bit of a problem with the wavy mapping on the forearm. I got some MD3 tools though and i plan to start learning some basics so that i get to figure out the geometry of the model and make a new map for it

It's amazing :) I've tried to do the gloves myself but I haven't done anything good ^^ I would like to have your texture files I may help you retexturing to stop the wavy glove problem, and may help too for a new gold gun 'cause your gun is looking more yellow than golden.

Looks much better indeed. The folded glove is not really a big deal as gloves really tend to fold sometimes. It may even look more natural that way.

This looks pretty good.

When you do the the new HUD and replace Health with EGO, you might consider adding a con coded ego system that adds difficulty-dependent amount of ego per killed enemy (like in Manhattan Project or the latest revealed DNF build) and scrap the health packs.

The glove looks really good, but the pistol is too much yellow! It's doesn't looks like gold. The pistol in the first image of the first post yes instead.

The glove looks really good.
Perhaps you can improve the distortion thing.
If not, i think it doesn't matter that much because with the animation its probably hardly noticeable.

Is this just a model skin/texture replacement pack? Because that Glock really should be remodeled into an actual Desert Eagle if not.

I think it's going to be only a texture pack. If not it would be amazing to have a new pistol model but in DNF, Duke doesn't use a Desert Eagle in the latest leak but a glock ^^ so I think we don't need to change the model

I'm pretty sure the pistol in those new DNF shots is a Colt M1911 Custom, not a Glock.

Jaxx: I'd make the HUD letters horizontal, not vertical. Or you could put symbols there to give the player an idea of what they mean.

Also those gloves look really cool :)
