Legend of the Seven Paladins 3D: English Version

Legend of the Seven Paladins 3D
("搖滾少林系列 七俠五義3D", literally "Rock'n'Roll Shaolin Series: The Seven Heroes and Five Gallants 3D")
is a Taiwanese game made by a company named Accend. 3D Realms was
negotiating a deal with the Asian company for their Build Engine, but according to
3D Realms staff, the contract didn't came to be, and they thought Accend never
developed more than a demo based on their engine.

Turns out, though, that they not only finished the project (which makes
Legend of the Seven Paladins the first commercially released Build Engine
game), but even licensed it out further to the Koreans, which adjusted some
graphics and the story to squeeze the game into a Korean historical setting.

The game is now fully translated to English and ready to play with a pre-configured DOSBox.
Unfortunately, it's still impossible to make it actually playable due to a bug (?) which makes
enemies fire dozens of projectiles rapidly.

GDX port is planned, and I don't see why the bug won't be fixed there. As for the DOS version, that's unlikely.

Found an interesting thing. Demo version of the game had a portrait for the 8th hero, the one wielding a labrys. In the final version it's replaced with just a blank wall, but the hero is still available and fully playable.
I guess it was done to justify "the 7 paladins" in the name.

@fgsfds
Many thanks for your work with this translation. Really cool that this build-engine underdog is now in english.
I tried the game but i'ts really heavy to play. The difficult is really hard (even in easy mode) or i'm to old for this :o
Maybe we can think about a "community release" like MARS 3D :D (just a joke).

Actually, that would be great. Your Mars box is top-notch.

Make sense, since VV was Accend Inc.'s first their own game so used the artworks from VV in Lot7P demo is normal, I guess.

Someone started an attempt to port this to EDuke32 but it was never finished. I'm curious if anyone might be interested in dusting that off.

I wonder is the port still working with original Chinese version...or the English version only?

It should support all versions.
But it will still be in English except for the non-translated tiles.

Please don't fix the bug (or leave an option in the menu to keep it), I am used to playing the game with it and it would be way too easy and boring if the enemies only shot one projectile. This way it feels like an fps bullet hell.

Too bad it did made me give up the game...I just can't dodge them for some reasons...maybe the control sucks, or I just sucked at that.

But I'm sure a lot of people complains about this projectile...made the game become so hard.

Why not make it a toggle? That way, the five people who want the game to be hard can have it that way and the three people who want it easy can breeze through it.

I recreated the gradient backgrounds from three of the four ads in the intro level (the last one doesn't have a simply gradient background). Also, "translated" versions using Yandex image translate

Edit: I figured out partly how to go about reconstructing the last one

You know the ads from the intro level of Lot7P were Apogee's games, right? (Expect the first one, that's Accend Inc.'s own game)

:)

Yeah, there's Mystic Towers. Hocus Pocus and Raptor Call of the Shadows. I think the English translations fits the bootleg nature of the game though.

Okay, just let you know I'm fine with your idea, but that just looks weird to me for some reasons. :)

How hard would it be to replace some sprites of this game with voxels?

I could make some to spice up the game though... :)

In GDX? I'd think it'd be the same as adding voxels to any other game.
