The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath was pretty good, but it's not quite what you'd expect from Lovecraft.

The thing I never expected from Lovecraft was a contemporary (i.e. non-gothic) narrative style, like in Pickman's Model. All his other works read like they're from the victorian era by design, but Pickman's Model feels like a dude telling you an awful anecdote over too many drinks. Wish he'd written that way more often.
Me, I've been reading a lot of gamebooks and reviewing them on Uncle Mac's Gamebook Shack (the new site, I ditched the old one). I've got a gigantic stack of them now, and I'm starting to wish I'd written my old Doom novels as gamebooks like this. Recently found out they did gamebooks of Sonic the Hedgehog when I was a kid and I never even knew about it. I did read a ton of the Mario ones back then.
