Sure not but compared to what those old shitty computers and Duke's version of Build could do it's a pretty nice recreation of how the real building "feels"... and it's still a shit map.

Other things that annoy me in Duke are the babes, they have no purpose, you cannot save them! You can ... kill them, though? Huh?!

Also, what is up with the very annoying and extremely loud sounds of the Octobrains? And there are so many of these things.

I guess after a while you get used to the babes, but back in the 90' half-naked women were... something. Even if they served no purpose.

They bring atmosphere to the game. Those babes are beyond saving and even ask Duke to "kill" them. That is their purpose. It's a clear reference to the cocooned women in Aliens :

Definitely a 90s thing. Reminds of that one map, Penthouse Paradise, literally one of the worst maps ever made for this game, and all the XXX art is horribly implemented. Then they discovered internet porn.

IMO Golden Carnage was a laughable level. The Golden Gate bridge is supposed to be over a mile long, but Duke can run across it in 3 seconds. DC was way more creative and effective in its implementation of real life locations.

Ok, I finally got to beat Ion Fury. I can safely say that for me, its the best build engine game now (Duke just got dethroned). However, it was not a clean sweep as there are certain aspects of Duke and Blood that are better.

In terms of Weapons/Arsenal:
Blood > IF > Duke 3d > SW > Redneck

Asthetics:
IF > SW > Duke 3d > Blood > Redneck

Level Design:
IF > Duke 3d > Blood > SW > Redneck

Level Variety + Progression:
Duke 3d > IF > Blood > SW > Redneck

Gameplay balance:
IF > Duke 3d > Blood > SW > Redneck


Overall:
IF > Duke 3d > Blood > SW > Redneck

You put Blood's aesthetic only above Redneck Rampage, which is a fart joke of a game? Blood has amazing atmosphere and a deluge of references to horror movies and other art. It also has its own latin-inspired language and awesome voice acting.

Reason why I placed Blood's asthetics so low is because I find its color palette to be too dull and one-tone. Both SW and Duke3d look aesthetically better in my opinion (and IF's aesthetics simply blow away every sprite based fps out there).

Of course it is all just my personal opinion. So don't be mad ok Posted Image

Actually if we compare graphics alone Redneck Rampage should be on first place because of use "hires/realistic" resources and better palette job but sadly it doesn't fixes gameplay/level issues. Gloomy/horror like colors in Blood are intentional with many sprites, lighting and art trying accomodate less colorful image to give them more vibrant and focused alive feel but with magic realism (unlike colorful but cartoony experience of Duke3d). Of course you could make map for Blood that isn't washed out and include tons of colors because most of these are adjustable/set by map design but that will not feel properly with style of resources/gameplay that are in game.

Shadow Warrior feels like something between cartoony and realism - far beyond Duke3D but still not Blood.

Ion Fury on the other hand looks neither realistc nor cartoony going for that golden middle in attempt to show typical Build-like feel and that's why it looks and feels like Shadow Warrior.

Maybe that was the intention? It worked. I never played that game due to the lousy aesthetics (when it comes to colors).
