[RELEASE] MSSP 9 – New Pietniemi  "Another great release by Mikko Sandt"

I haven't seen this map advertised here, so I thought i'd post a link to the map. This is a fun and short level, well designed with great game play. If you've got 20 minutes to spare I recommend checking this one out. New maps have been kinda sparse lately.

Mod Edit: I've attached this map as a zip to this post, the link now leads to a spam website so I've hidden it under a spoiler

That's cool, I didn't know Mikko had made another map.

Good map, took me a little over 7 minutes.

I don't think he checks these forums, but in case he does, there's a bug right at the beginning of the map:

Good map! As we can expect from Mikko the clean design and the strong shading immediately stand out. I love the theme of a city block on the moon.
There's some really cool unreachable scenery here to enhance the theme.

The map could have been expanded even more, but it's fun while it lasts. <_<

I played it too. Good solid fun. A couple of original ideas, like the rocket in the beginning and some nice shadows.

He checks the forums regulary, and knows everything. In case he miss a release somehow, somebody like me will notify him via steam. <_<

Does anyone know if MSSP8 and MSSP9 connect with the MSSP episode that includes mission 1-7?

MSSP9:
"Well, here it is finally, the long-awaited "continuation" (although not in any meaningful sense) of the MSSP series. Go download your copy of MSSP9 and enjoy! This being the site's official 20th anniversary gift to mankind, I should probably say a few more words, but I just want to get this map out of the way and move on to playing Rainbow Six Siege while enjoying a few cans of long drink; it is May Day, after all. Anyway, have fun with the map!"

MSSP8:
"Another level which I'm pretty proud of. The first street section belonged to a CBP map that never got released. I liked the part I built for the project so I didn't want to trash it - so I started to build a whole map around it. I never intended to continue the MSSP Episode serie but since this is an "insignificant" release I thought that it'd be a nice addition to MSSP serie. I built it quite fast and ran out of sectors. The level was released on my 20th birthday"

I meant if the level endings and beginnings connect seamlessly. I already read those short descriptions and it's not clarified in them, but I guess that's what you're trying to confirm.

Sorry for a bit of off-topic, but judging by our reaction, it's interesting to see how the perception of a "good map" evolved over the years. With all respect to Mikko and his work, maps like this would be considered average at best about 10 or 15 years ago. At least this map looks like it would come from the author of the previous parts, not the author of DNF 2013.

I don't know if the reduced number of new releases is the case, but right now every map that looks well crafted is considered good. I'd like to think that at this point we really don't care about the amount of details anymore, and just appreciate the new maps for just what they are.

I still don't know why he left the forum many years ago.

The map itself is average at best, the only standout thing was the Overlord statue with its shadow. I'm still waiting for DNF TC rerelease. Both Mikko and Gambini outdid themselves in that thing.

(irrc) He left because certain people took issue with some things he had posted elsewhere.

Pretty sure a couple of those certain people aren't going to leave it be if he did come back. Many bridges were burned and he probably doesn't want to deal with it anymore.

I realized the map existed just today, and gave it a go. People saying it´s an average map as best should remember he made it in 15 days.

In my opinion the map is very solid because Mikko never tries to bite off more than he can chew. So the design it´s not influenced by Duke modernist design, while it´s tidy and flawlessly classic. I had a lot of fun playing it (probably aided because i havent played duke maps in a long time) and it never got confusing as other maps do because the player doesn´t need to figure out artistic interpretations of interactive objects of any kind.

I remember a handful of users insistently making fun of him, mainly for having opposite political opinions and no actions being taken for not following the forum guidelines regarding respect.

I'm sure Mikko would be welcomed with open arms if he came back. Everyone here seems to have nice things to say about him. The folks who had beef with him haven't said anything about him in years. None of them are entering this thread trying to defend their side. I think everyone's over it.

I was teasing him for his ego, but when it started getting personal & subjects from different websites were brought up, I backed out. I was ignorant to what they were talking about, until after the dust settled.

Be nice if he could come back and things remained neutral between him and those involved.

LOL, forum guidelines? What forum guidelines are these?

People post pictures of giant chocolate dildos, dismembered children and porn stories involving pig cops giving people aids and it's just another day at Duke4.net.

So (similar) stuff that is found in Duke3d. That's within the rules.

What's not within the rules is bringing up someone's facebook page and other outside sources, and using doxing tactics.

Wow, that was a great map, but that is to be expected from Mikko. Man, I'd gladly pay for another episode like this.

Does anybody have a mirror of this map? "Dukemaps.net" leads to a spam site now and I cant find the map elsewhere, even on MSDN.

I found it on Megaton's Steam Workshop so I've attached it to the first post.

Edit: You can also get it directly from his site https://msdn.duke4.net/mssp9.zip
