Can i use art and scripts from other maps/mods?

Hello all! (sorry for my English)

I want to make big cyberpunk-style map for Alien Armageddon-mod, but build-in art is very scarce for realise my idea. Unfortunately, i can't do as much art as I need to, because i draw very slow.

Can i use textures, sprites, models and CON-scripts from other maps / mods?

Will it be enough to specify the authors of the art in text description of the map, or should I ask permission personally?

I apologize for these questions.

You should ask permission.

Also, it looks like you've mistakenly used the "Report User" function instead of the Private Messages feature.

probably a good idea to contact the coder and art creator of the AA mod as well. They're constantly updating and adding art while they work on their next version.
Your art file might be incompatible with future releases & if you ask them, they might recommend a block of tiles to use so there won't be any conflicts.

You should decide whether you are making a map for Alien Armageddon, or whether you are making your own fork of that mod. I would not be happy about you making a fork, because that could cause confusion amongst players and would dilute what is special about the mod by having two different versions of it. However, if you actually want to make a map for it and have it work with the mod, that could potentially be great.

Right now, we are following these rules:
-textures are in Duke 3D palette and are added via .art files
-sprites, too: moreover, sprites have to be done in a particular scale with some stylistic constraints (generally they are made by sebabdukeboss20)
-models are a tricky issue; we have maintained 8-bit compatibility so that in the few cases where models are used (e.g. lasers) there is an 8-bit sprite used for classic mode
-so far I have written all the scripts; talk to me about what you think you need scripts for

To sum up: it would be better if you would coordinate with us on your map. I'm not saying that your map would be part of an official episode, but at least it could be made to work with the official mod and have our seal of approval as an add-on.
