This kicks ass, damn. I can't believe we've gone a whole 18 years without hearing this in full.

Awesome.

That song is seared into my lizard brain and I never got sick of it. Especially the part that kicks in about 1:04 because that's usually where the song would be at when I'd be right smack in the middle of testing whatever specific item was being iterated on at that moment.

Nice, I hope more songs will surface, in particular the 2001 trailer theme.

Edit: Nevermind, I didn't realize it already existed.

I did a slightly better version than this one but I can't seem to find it right now. It also got cut off in the middle of the last word.

Holy hell, the nostalgia. Can't wait for modders to put this into the game when it inevitably gets released in its full 2001/2002 glory. Unless it's already in there.

And it's mirrored in the Audio section of the DNF Museum.

Release what? The 2001 game? Or what are you talking about?
Is that a thing?
I though they said the game doesn't exist and what we saw in that trailer is everything it was.

Ps. Also love the song. Can't believe after so many years I finally get to hear it.
This song is like a bottle of perfectly drinkable champagne found on the bottom of the ocean/sea floor in a rotted chest of a ship wrek that stood there for hundreds of years.
It's both old and new at the same time and it's that type of old quality shit we used to get in the 80's and 90's that managed to stay hidden until now.
If only more musicians had musical hits from the 80's and 90's that were never heard before.

Some people here have a religious belief that the 2001 version of DNF was at least 90% done, and that Randy the evil mastermind doesn't want to release it because it would make Gearbox look bad.

Randy can't release that which he doesn't have.
I think 3drealms should have it.
They could leak it but they are probably scared of a trial since they are the only ones that have it.

Randy is supposed to have everything related to DNF. If we take what he said as true, then he wants to release a special edition of DNF with material from the previous iterations, but 2K won't let him because they don't want to re-release DNF. In this case I tend to believe him, because his actions already proved in the past that he is 2K's bitch.

They've offered to put it together for Randy without any work or cost on Gearbox's part but Randy doesn't really seem to be gung-ho about it.

Or maybe the establishment has long deemed Duke as an enemy to the feminist and anti white male movement that is going full force in the media these days and they like Duke where he is right now, in the grave or in cryostasis if we're hopeful that liberals die a terrible death in a few years.

Very nice; love Lee's work.
Hopefully, if the 2001 stuff ever gets released, there's more music in there.

This almost sounds like it was done in a Tracker format...god so much potential gone to waste

I love the atmospheric pads and FX samples, they really add a menacing and mysterious vibe.

I don't think Lee has ever worked with Tracker MODs. Besides, that's definitely a Sound Canvas "Warm Pad" in there.

On the other hand...

http://web.archive.o...om/Legacy:Music
"The music tracks in Unreal engine 1 games are all in UMX file formats. Basically, a umx file doesn't contain anything special except for the music track itself which was imported into this umx (this is not entirely true). So which music formats can be used to create umx files?

Games that use the earlier Unreal Engine builds (like Unreal, UT and Deus Ex) support Direct music (MID, MIDI and RMI) and Music Modules - usually shortened to "MOD", but not to be mistaken with a game mod! Modules can have different formats, like .s3m, .xm, .it, .mod. "

Fred made the offer to Randy on that live stream chat with he, Randy, TX, and Yatta a couple years back.

UMX files (for Unreal 1) are indeed tracked MOD files but you can create a mod with one stereo instrument (or two mono instruments) that are basically just the entire digital track that loops. I did something similar with my Klingon Honor Guard de-CD-ification project by turning the redbook audio tracks into UMX files. On the other hand, Unreal 226 and Unreal 2 UMX files can be converted from OGG files and don't have to be tracked MODs. Lesson 1 is definitely not a tracked MOD. There are certain traits and characteristics (and limitations) to MOD files that this track doesn't seem to mirror.

Actually, Unreal supporting MIDI is news to me. I thought it was just MODs for the initial release. Maybe in an early unreleased version?

I think we're still on topic here for the most part.

The problems here are:
1) Fred doesn't work for 2K
2) 2K holds the distribution rights to DNF
3) 2K doesn't want to redistribute DNF

EDIT: I had asked for a link because I had assumed you said 2K had offered to put the material together for Randy, and I found it implausible.

I meant that Fred (3DR/Slipgate) offered. I guess I must have assumed it was implied when I posted at the time, but I now don't see where Fred was mentioned which makes it confusing. So, my bad.

Here's Randy Pitchford on Nerdvana Live confirming they have been granted a license from 2K that enables them to commercially redistribute Duke Nukem Forever and related materials:
Nerdvana Live Show, Ep. 11

Here's the previous post where I explained Gearbox Software have obtained a license that enables them to commerically redistribute Duke Nukem Forever and related materials:
Gearbox have secured a sub-license to publish Duke Nukem Forever and related content in an upcoming compilation they have in production.

DNF 10th Anniversary release in 2021, I'm calling it. Maybe they'll actually fix some of it's problems, release some tools, reopen the console. That might be wishful thinking though.
