Where does multiplayer stand with eDuke these days?
In a couple months I'm going to be running some classic game tournaments at a game convention, and I *really* want to have Duke 3D be available.
I recall a bit ago I tried to follow the multiplayer guide on the eDuke wiki, but I never managed to get two computers to actually connect with each other.
First of all, has that changed any? Have there been any updates to the program that got multiplayer working again? Since I was last looking at this, Ion Maiden came out (in early access) so I'm wondering if this professional interest in the Build engine has resulted in a stable multiplayer update being shared with the world.
Second, if not, then is there any viable work around for a LAN game? Is there a particular older version that works, or can I use something like that YANG program to get things working?
Thirdly, failing all of the above, is there anyone working on an update to the multiplayer code? Because honestly, I'm considering learning how to code network stuff just so I can get the multiplayer working myself if I have to. But I'm sure there are people better at that sort of thing than me, (I'm still pretty amateur at programming) so I don't want to spend three months of my spare time trying to figure out a problem only to find that someone else has already done that. So is there anyone I would want to collaborate with or learn from? Is there someone else who has stated an intention to fix this? Or is Voidpoint already working on it, and so we're just waiting for Ion Maiden to drop?
I'd like to know what's going on at this point in time.

That doesn’t fully answer his question about the state of current multiplayer.

In short, someone is slowly working on it, and the problems are complex given how dynamic eduke32 can be.
Hopefully the OldMP build should suffice for LAN.

This is very helpful; thank you! I don't know why I could not find this info when I was looking a year ago...
