Ghostbusters except possibly better?  "Coming in 2020"

Jason Reitman (Ivan Reitman's son) is directing, with Ivan producing. It's confirmed to be in the same universe as the first two films, and that is the original car (and music and sound effects). No one is cast yet and it won't start filming until summer. The release is set for summer 2020. Rumour is a younger cast. No word on cameos or role reprisals. But people are expecting the "old trains the new" trope.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm glad more than anything that the 2016 reboot has been forgotten and its sequel-baiting plans shelved.

that's what you think.

bet the new crew will be 'inclusive'

which, in of itself, is not an issue. It's when they have to make it an issue and shove it down everyone's throat - and if you don't like it you're an 'ism'. then it becomes a problem.

The 2016 version probably would have done better if it wasn't for all the '-isms' being flung around.

gonna happen

What I meant was that they're not going to be continuing it and, as far as future movie stories are concerned, it means less than nothing.

You can be sure people won't be forgetting about it. There was already a Forbes article with the title "Yes, Jason Reitman is making Ghostbusters 3 and it's all your fault".

If they can put out a normal comedy these days without a bunch of stupidity surrounding it because someone is getting offended, then I might go see it.

The entertainment industry, using social media as its platform, broke everything. They need to fix it. Once they manage to get over themselves.

I would like this movie to do well. I really do, but I don't think they'll let themselves succeed.

I think I remember hearing a few years ago, before the 2016 version came out, that another company had the rights to also work on their own Ghostbusters movie. I'm not sure how that managed to work or what the reasoning was but I'm guessing this must be that other movie. It'll certainly be interesting to see what the response will be like and how much it'll be compared to the 2016 version, although from what you're saying MI, that's already begun.

Most anticipated games: Ion Maiden, Cyberpunk 2077, Doom Eternal, Beyond Good and Evil 2

Without the genius of Harold Ramis, this sequel will never be able to fully live up to expectations. The first two movies were products of their time. One cannot possibly hope to reproduce the circumstances and zeitgeist during which they were made (but they probably also won't even bother attempting that).
Nevertheless, if at least Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray are involved without just having short cameos, it MAY still be worth watching.

I'll watch it at the theatre and probably like it. I knew going into the 2016 reboot that it would be different and not have the charm of the original. Knowing and accepting that beforehand allowed me to enjoy the movie for what it is. I do notice the political correctness plugged in to a lot of movies today. I just shrug it off and wait til after the movie is over to mention/complain to friends.

Jason Reitman was in Ghostbuster II 1989
played as Brownstone Boy #2

Now he's a producer etc
According to some source it will be sequel to Ghostbusters II.
This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”
https://www.theverge...on-reitman-2020

It’s not clear whether the franchise’s original surviving leads — Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Bill Murray — will return to reprise their roles. (The film’s fourth star, Harold Ramis, died in 2014.) According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reitman is looking to cast two male and two female teenagers for the film.

Someone on Youtube said that Ernie Hudson all but confirmed they were all returning, but I haven't seen any quote.

My problem with Ghostbusters 2016 was not that it was all female (though, the film team boasting it all the time before it came out didn't help matters at all), but rather that there was zero creep factor, the ghosts looked like cartoon neon bright coloured CGI monsters, and all the jokes were absolutely unfunny. I didn't even chuckle once.

Apparently rumour is that the two main characters will be kids.

Quote

Rumors have surfaced suggesting the main characters in the newly announced Ghostbusters film will be children. We Got This Covered reports that two of the main characters in this sequel to the original movies will be kids. Reportedly, they will be a 13-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl.

The source also states the boy is curious about conspiracy theories and the unknown and has a habit of narrating his own life. It's said at some point during the course of the film he'll befriend the girl who's acutely intelligent but not great with emotions. Reportedly, her schtick is voicing her observations in a deadpan fashion to humorous effect.

The overall plot will reportedly involve a family moving to a small town with hidden secrets, though no information about appearances or ties to past Ghostbusters characters are mentioned.

Of course, this is heavily rumored, and we don't know for certain if any of this is true.

>Sony

It's not going to be good. Let's not forget this is fucking Sony. Disney is literally making Marvel movies for characters Sony has the rights to, for practically free on Disney's end and letting Sony keep the profits, because Sony is so fucking retarded they can't figure out a character as simple as Peter Fucking Parker.

I mean, they could both be true. We all know how Hollywood likes to pretend children are "of age".

I am way more confident in this true sequel !

If the 2016 rebbot was a disaster, don't blame the actresses, they did their job, blame the director who behaved like free electron, uncaring of all the advises given by the original actors !

Yay, teenagers. So it will suck even more than Feig's version.

I blame The Goonies. It seems that ever since then main characters/heroes in so many movies are kids aged 11-16.

I hate it the most about America. If there was anything worthwhile about the country it was that, the entertainment industry, the major economy engine of US. But social media isn't the only problem, suits milk all those known franchises to death with shitty countless sequels and remakes (and also badly while we're at it) not because of social media, the people who rule it are creatively bankrupt, social media is just a side-effect in my opinion. I rarely watch anything modern Hollywood stuff, the latest modern movie I saw was Logan and even then it was quite mediocre compared to the old media, it made me interested in X-Men related old stuff while I didn't care much about the movie itself. There is barely any room for small budget movies too, a lot of recognizable movies begun as low budget projects which were "risky" if you can call it that anyway.

I have no nostalgia goggles either, aside from a very few things I've never seen majority of American old media when it first came up, I learned about and saw a lot of things in this decade.

What's ironic is that they could steal a lot of ideas from ton of good books too, but it's better to make soulless propaganda and use what sells I guess, even if this shit is failing, after all they can milk stupid chinks who can eat anything including Hollywood itself or American entertainment industry by buying it out what I expect to bring much more anti-Japanese propaganda movies in the future.

Honestly I mostly watch YouTube these days. Cancelled Netflix because I'm tired of their fucking lies. The Amy Schumer debacle left a bad taste in my mouth and ever since then they've been worse and worse. Month after I cancelled I learned they're producing a show pushing Satanism. Nope. Fuck them.

And YouTube is pissing me off too. Subscribe to Bithead1000 while you still can.

That's what I was pretty much saying basically. Back then it wasn't about fucking children only, there were talented people still who were willing to take risk and what brought a lot of successful franchises those parasites are milking nowadays. The more I think about it the more I find modern cinema pathetic. It declined way too fast, almost like video games which had shorter lifespan compared to cinema industry.

Also Netflix is shit. From what I see it's just a pure propaganda machine, in best lefturds traditions of the most soulless, blatant and degenerate propaganda of course now includes anime pretender shows. It's surprising that you was subscribed to it unless it's been years ago.

I'm actually fairly tolerant of libshits. I used to be one. Even though Dave Rubin is a bit of a snake, I liked his phrase "The Left left me behind." I watched the Daily Show/Colbert Report for years. Then one day I woke up. Couldn't stand Colbert, but kept watching Stewart because I believe while Stewart has an agenda, he is genuine and does generally want what's best for America even if he is misguided. Oddly enough, I do trace Trump's election to him in some ways, because no one hammered Anthony Weiner harder than he did. I think that's part of the reason he was let go. He did have integrity, if something or someone was wrong in his view, he wouldn't let them get off, no matter how much it upset corporate overlords.

And in that vein, I do like quite a lot of what Netflix carries, and even some of their original content is quite good. It was at one time an amazing platform for comedians. And F is for Family is one of the best shows since King of the Hill. But they're shills and anti-American. If they would allow truly diverse content, like picking up Million Dollar Extreme Presents: World Peace or give Owen Benjamin a comedy special, I'd resubscribe. But they won't, so they can suck my cock. Leftists have to hijack culture and block dissenting viewpoints, because they're never able to win in a fair competition of ideas.

I actually watch a very diverse range of content, political and non-political, because I am a fringe person. I like to get into everything. That's literally why I ended up on the Trump train, he is just as fringe as I am, but he found a way to package it to the masses and that appealed to me because I feel the average person should become more fringe or at least acquainted with it. I listen to people like Jim Sterling even though he drives me fucking nuts with his stupid leftist bullshit but he is undeniably correct in his assessments of the games industry. I listened to Joe Rogan for years, and even listened still during and after the election. Even when I knew Joe had become a corporate shill, I still listened. When did I stop? When he sold out people he called friends like Eddie Bravo, Alex Jones, Owen Benjamin. I don't have to like your ideas to find you interesting or worth listening to. But your ideas must be genuine. You must actually be a good person. Joe has proven that he's more worried about money and brownie points than sticking by his friends and that makes me absolutely sick. What is a little bit of money in exchange for your soul? He never has to work another day in his life already, that willingness to just sell out for trivial reasons is truly despicable. Just be real.

To get somewhat back on topic, I'm just getting tired of the constant nostalgia milking.*
None of these nostalgia bait movies come close to the Original in terms of quality. It's just a cheap shot of member berries.

In the case of Ghostbusters: the first one captured lightning in a bottle. I don't think it's possible to recreate something like that, even when there's talented writers and actors involved.
It would be better if all that effort went into something new and original, but ya know.. that's not going to happen.

*and yes I know it's a bit odd to say that on a forum based on a 90's game. :P
