I'll wait...

"Until It's Done."

I'm mostly excited for the water that "does stuff", and that you are able to shoot off individual fingers of the characters. Also looking forward to the nighttime vegas levels. Gus and that donkey also look pretty cool.

**edit. Can't forget those ragdoll octobrains

Do you think Chinese Democracy or Duke Nukem Forever will release first?

I trust it will be one of the best, if not the best, game of 1998. And this confidence is not misplaced.

You can't trust what is said. Only what is done.

Look at Duke trilogy.(Terry Nagy literally said on camera "It's coming soon barring any world disasters.) Look at Duke Forever. Look at Colonial Marines. Look at We Happy Few. Look at No Man's Sky. Look at Fallout 76. On and on and on...

Quality wasn't the point of contention.

Promises being kept, truth and deceit, was, and no, No Man's Sky still has not met that goal.

Do you have a "gutsy feeling that it's reeeeeal close now" like Jobi did from 2001 to 2011?

He was a cool guy from ages past.

Any time the old names come up I get sad, because they all moved on.

We all waited together. Then DNF came out and it was a shit show, and everyone kinda quietly walked away. Like leaves in the breeze.

Did they went away only because DNF? They decided to forget about the entire Duke franchise and stopped enjoying Duke 3D just for that? I don't understand.

So people were kind of young and waited more than a decade for a game that sucked balls. People have lives, you know. Family, work and other interests. For me Duke only had 1 wow game. In close to 30 years. :) Of course most people moved on man :D

Well. Put it in perspective; I'm 30 years old now. I was 9-10 years old when I started waiting for Duke Nukem Forever. I played Duke3D at the age of 7-8.

More than that.

The Duke community when it was at it's height in the early to mid 2000s, with mods coming out constantly and strides being made with Eduke... There was something bigger on the horizon, and I think the wisdom for a long time, especially back when the community was more centered around 3D Realms, planetduke, and dukeworld, was that Duke 3D and Duke Nukem Forever would have enjoyed this shared community, where a lot of the old timers would have stepped up to work on Duke 4 and the same kind of user created content that we enjoyed with Duke 3D would be there for Duke Forever.

There was awhile where there was a sub forum dedicated to people learning Unreal Ed for the up coming release of Duke Nukem Forever, and that was in the early 2000s.

Part of it was burn out. You can only do so much and play so much of a game before you move on. Part of it was growing up. A lot of people had jobs, had kids, turned those jobs into careers, and then that was it. No time to come on the forums anymore. No time to make maps or mods.

There's nothing that can be done until something official and of decent quality comes along.

At this point is almost impossible to recreate the hype that DNF had, I mean almost all the duke communities are pretty much dead by now, with the only "famous" and active standing by now is Duke4net.

It really feels that anything that comes in the future after DNF will not be met with the insanely expectations that this community had, the only "big" thing right now is the movie and the supposed Duke Nukem collection, and while I think that if a new duke game releases, the amount of people that this community had will unfortunately never come back, unless something as big as DNF is made which is unlikely.

I actually see a chance of Gearbox giving Voidpoint a chance with a smaller build engine Duke game if Ion Maiden is a commercial success. I don't know if they ever discussed it, but I do not think that scenario as impossible.

Or maybe I am just being optimistic.
