Converting MDX format models

Does anyone here know how or have the software to convert animated MDX format models to MD3 format? Years ago I remember seeing an Eduke mod that used a couple of models from a game that used MDX so I know its possible to convert and keep the animations intact.

I tried a couple of old programs for converting MDX to some other formats which I would then try to convert to MD3 but they don't want to run properly in a 64bit OS.

If it's a Warcraft MDX, this tool can convert the models into MDL (and also the reverse).

Then from the MDL you should be able to convert it into any other format you want trough Noesis.

If it does not keep the animations or there are conversion errors, try with this:

Wikipdia mentions some converter, too:

The 2 converters in Fantinaikos's post are the 2 I tried that don't run. I get error messages.

There is a 3rd one to try from wiki link. The Warcraft3 editor has ms3d output along with others. I can make use of that if the anims stay intact. I'll see what happens.

Thanks.

Damn, the links are no good for the War3 editor. Hopefully I can find it in a google search.
Damn again, I found it, installed and ran it. No good. Evidently there is a difference between the Kingpin mdx models I wanted to use and the warcraft mdx format.

Oops. I remember now that one of those first 2 programs converted but lost the animations.

So, the search continues. Its a shame that Noesis somehow forgot to include MDX.

Well, for Kingpin MDX there is this 3ds-max import script, then you can export in an other format.

http://www.scriptspo...in-mdx-importer

You can even try with this conventer. At least the supported file format list says this. http://3doc.i3dconve...om/formats.html
http://3doc.i3dconverter.com/

There is also this direct MDX converter to OBJ if you ever need one, probably the output will be un-bonefied.

If you can convert MDX to FBX then you can use Neosis to convert the FBX to MD3.

The i3D converter has it's save feature disabled for the trial version. GAH!!!!!!

It has 100's of file formats but only 3 or 4 are actually usefull. The rest must be Mac or old outdated formats I never heard of.

ICD: I was attempting to save to 3DS for conversion in Noesis but no save feature.

I even tried installing the 30 day trial version of that old program Milkshape. It imports MDX but lost the anims. Dammit, it can be done somehow because I saw 2 Kingpin models as MD3 complete with original anims.

This view and convert MDX to MD2, but every MD2 should pass to MD3 without lost any data.
http://www.softsea.c...MDX-Viewer.html

BTW It is possible that model and animations get exported separately and then jointed later like .GLA+.GLM does? Whit a specific command Noesis can do this trick to re-rigging some models under other formats.

30 day trial version? why? There is the full version on the official site that you don't even need to install, you can open the installer like an archive and extract the files without add any system registry key.

Thats possible. One of the programs told me I needed to export a "modelname".qc file before I could export the model itself.

It looks like MDX Viewer will work. Thankyou very much. Even though I can choose to merge together the 3 separate parts of each model, when saving it only exports the first part. So I guess I will have to export all 3 parts and join them together in my regular modeling program. Time consuming but it will get me what I need. I seem to remember having this program on my computer years ago. I must have deleted it because I didn't have much use for it at the time.

I'll have to look again on the Milkshape site. I didn't see where you can get the full version.
