Any good gore mods?

I was inspired to make this topic after playing the wonderful Smooth Doom a while back. Ironically my favorite features of that mod have nothing to do with the name advertises, but some of the extras. Mainly, as the title of the thread would imply, the additional gore settings. More specifically the fact that it's all software-rendered.

It made me think back to some of the fancy gore effects I'd seen from this community. The giant bloodstains from WGR2, the extra giblets from Nuclear Showdown...hell, even X-Treme kinda got in on the action. The only "issue" (insofar as the term can be applied) is that those gore effects are all a.) separated and b.) inseparable from their gameplay mods. I'm wondering if there isn't something that sorta combines everything and is widely compatible, for at least most of the expansions, but without changing the gameplay much. Preferrably software-rendered, as well.

I confess I am a bit of a gorehound, and the idea of software-rendered gore is kind of a holy grail to me. Maybe I'm asking a bit much for it to be compatible with most of the expansions, but I figure there is no harm in at least asking. I like it when things bleed excessively, what can I say.

Don't look at me like that.

It sounds like the closest thing to what you're after is Brutal Duke, which I'm not sure has been fully finished but is apparently quite playable: https://forums.duke4...rk-in-progress/

My KADuke mod has a big gore system improvement, despite it's not strictly 8bit:

There will be several updates in the future; also there are some trailer and gameplays on the net atm.

That does sort of seem to fit the bill. I did hear about that project but I mostly stayed away from it as I was expecting it to change up some of the gameplay like its namesake.

I've kept my eye on this project. It sure looks interesting and I plan to give it a go at some point, but I'm ideally looking for a gore mod that doesn't come with many, if any, gameplay changes.

People interested in modding generally want to change gameplay as well as cosmetics.
The problem is that EDuke32 doesn't have a good setup for combining different mods together. It doesn't, for example, have local variables, which would be a big help in that regard. So, a lot of mods (like most of mine) are overhauls that change lots of gameplay in addition to gore. Such is the case with Kickass Duke.

This has caused no end to trouble to me as well.
