You know in polymer mode you cannot have more than 1 sky in a map  "about skies on floor and ceiling sectors."

Like it says in
https://wiki.eduke32...er_Deficiencies

implement new sky support; would solve:
limited to one skybox
level geometry is displayed through skyboxes when it should not
showview command does not work
changing skies at runtime

While in polymost or less.
you can change sky during playtime etc.

I wonder if this ever be fixed so skyboxes in polymer mode can change during gameplay when you have let say

coding inside sector based sprites that changes sky etc.

setsector[THISACTOR].ceilingpicnum xxxxx
or
setsector[THISACTOR].floorpicnum xxxxx
or
setsector[THISACTOR].ceilingpicnum xxxxx setsector[THISACTOR].floorpicnum xxxxx
Depending on your sky type.

Even multi skies on same level like polymost or less.

So we have multi skies in polymer mode.

level geometry is displayed through skyboxes when it should not

I remember that being a problem in one map when Decay was released. Any version later than 5293 showed the inside of a certain building from the outside.

I use latest Eduke, so you mean it must be something beyond 5293 ?

Is weird in polymost mode skybox you can change them without issues.

Those issues with Polymer have been there for years and I don't expect any fixes. Maybe someday... :(

I see.

I think as I know of Plagman is the one who can fix this.

Its been a few years since Plagman messed with Polymer. I don't think even he would want to dive back in.

I see.
So there's no other known professional in this kind of edit.

How about Terminx or Hendrick etc?
They update Eduke, keep it alive

They are not familiar enough with OpenGL and rendering. Our last hope was ICD and he disappeared too.

Did you guys tried to contact em?

I didn't but a couple of other people tried. No replies.

I would not expect any future upgrades or major fixes to Polymer. Apart from the fact that it was never optimised, Plagman is now busy with other projects (work) and is unlikely to come back and start tinkering with it again.

I can't really speak for either Hendricks or TerminX, but I don't think that either of them specialises in high-performance OpenGL render engines. You need a specialist in that field to design/fix/improve something along the lines of Polymer.Even if they did, the EDuke32 project is veering away from using models, normals and lighting. There is no Polymer in Ion Maiden, it's all classic renderer.

The community has pretty much ditched modelling and gone over to sprite-based mods. The large number of modellers that used to be here are all gone.

Must be why polymer based levels are soo incredibly rare.

Yeah. Every time I release something its a losing battle. But as long as I enjoy modding and there are a handful of people still willing to play Polymer and model mods I'll continue making them. I really should host more of my projects at Moddb. Its hard to believe that the HHR mod is slowly approaching 1200 downloads. Compare that to my other stuff which got anywhere from 20-250 downloads and only announced here.

I'm kind of surprised that so many people are still running computers so old they can't play using Polymer.

I can play polymer,

I played Maisth's level in polymer mode and ran really good.

I don’t think it’s age as much as Intel and AMD drivers having poor OpenGL performance.
