I'm wondering about the future

I was wondering if there is anyone else out here that is working on a mod or TC for Eduke32 using high res custom content, 3D models and Polymer lighting?

I'm starting to feel lonely out here. :D

I considered it, but it's too much work for one person. And since I'm not a graphical artist in any way, the best I can hope for is an inconsistent conglomerate/mosaic of content from various sources. I think this is what deters a lot of people from it. To reach a certain standard, you need a team of at least one person designated for each area of work unless you want to rehash old stuff, which was pretty much the standard back in the days for 8-bit Duke TCs. At that time, the palette at least forced everything into the same aesthetic, even if the conversions weren't always up to par. With all the colors at our disposal now, achieving a consistent graphical standard or "feel" is achieved differently. The big studios rely a lot on specific shader styles and color tints to achieve it, as well as all kinds of filters for the textures.

The process is so much more cumbersome now that I can't conceive of how one person can cover all areas of work and achieve satisfying results and not go insane from the amount of work in all different areas.

You know i had the same feelling around here for the last couple of weeks. I'm trying to find my way back into modding and it's going rusty somehow. But i will get my motivation back soon. Got 2 projects working and i will try to finish both of them. But i'm always in need of help with certain places.

If I have the time beside my job and my two children, I am still working on my Brute Force mod (https://forums.duke4...standalone-mod/). But it is a very slow development.

At the moment I´m revising the background story (and with this maybe the title will change, too) to have a clearer way the development of the mod will go.

But yeah, it is hard to progress, because I completly lack of coding and modelling talents. :D

My computer doesn't support Polymost/Polymer at all, so I'm working on my Blacklist TC with classic renderer. I'm still using some 3D models to represent big objects that doesn't look right with sprites (like some stolen cars from Duke Theft Auto :D), but I convert them into voxels. Also, another problem is what BestViking said; creating models is so much work for only one person, and I have enough work designing all the levels, creating/adapting new textures and sprites, coding new stuff, etc.

Sort of - I'd rather not say too much but I have been working on a mod/TC over the past year that uses high-res 'custom/hand-traced/comic-y' textures, however I'm creating it for 8bit.

The AMC TC! Jks... that's a 'no' on all 3 counts Posted Image

If we had a fully functional and optimised modern renderer I'm sure more people would be willing to try it.
