[NSFW] MetArt Miracle  "Merry (belated) Christmas!"

This is a map I've been working on since 2014. It's taken a million hits (work related delays, two computers crapping out, things not quite working out as I'd hoped, etc.) but it's finally here. Met-Art Miracle, a spiritual sequel to Penthouse Paradise. This was made with no affiliation with Met-Art or any related companies.

Story: Duke has let the people at Met-Art use his mansion for their shoot this Christmas, but while Duke was away getting gifts, the aliens have attacked his place. In order for Duke to save the babes, and have a Merry Christmas, he must wipe out the alien menace.

All you need to do in order to run this is: Unzip the files, put them into one folder, put Eduke and the Atomic Edition GRP file in the folder, and then play. (I apologize for having three different zip files, but all together they're more than 10MB, which apparently is the maximum for a single file... even though it says that it's 20MB.)


Side note, this is a long map, it takes me, the person who made it, roughly 20 minutes to complete, so keep that in mind... I pretty much maxed out the sectors I could make, I had to remove an entire area that was planned, maybe someday I'll create it as an expansion... someday. Also, it doesn't really have a difficulty setting, I think a few of them are set, but I think it's good where it's at. Do enjoy, and I hope you all had a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. :D

Well, quite an odd choice of basis for a level's story (at first it looked like a not-so-subtle advertisement of MetArt to me) but I gotta like it anyway. The relation to Penthouse Paradise is obvious (as you've stated in your post). Will play it later.

P.S.: Why not just use a file hosting service of any sort (Mediafire, MEGA etc.) instead of splitting the upload in 3 (!) parts? (I saw your thread where you complained about not being able to upload 13 Mb here, and this was the first question to pop up in my mind)

Well... I didn't think of that... now I feel like an idiot. :3 I'll keep that in mind for future projects. (Like Atomic Crisis.)

does this have full frontal nudity?

i can brush off tits if the wife or kid walk in while I'm playing, but explaining why there's crotch on my screen might be a bit more of an issue.

Yes, there's full frontal. I probably should have mentioned that in my original post.

If it's under 25MB I'd recommend tinyupload.com it has no captchas, no waiting periods between downloads and doesn't require registration

My first impressions, imaginative, complex and I seem to run out of ammo at times, and I like the map.

It doesn't look like you have all of the tiles. The sky is supposed to be white, and the keypads are supposed to be keyholes... did I forget to put them in the downloads? Please tell me I didn't... did you download all three attachments? If you did, are they all in one?

Also, thanks for the feedback. :D

Sidenote about the 6-switch puzzle: I thought it'd be interesting to really challenge people with this map, so I thought it'd be good to balance the challenge between enemies, puzzles, slight platforming (I didn't put that in it much due to the fact that platforming doesn't work well in FPS.)

TILES014 is missing... FUCK!! Dammit... okay, here it is. Just put it in... I hate that I missed that one, it's pretty important. :/

Okay, so I took a look back through the files. TILES014 isn't necessary, it's a leftover from when I swapped from using DEF files to using TILES, and I accidentally made one I didn't need to. So, it's not important. I'm not sure where the skybox glitch is coming from, I didn't make the map in polymer, my brothers computer won't run polymer properly.

This is how it looks on mine, which is an older/outdated eduke, if you look closely you can see the glitch, it's jsut not as visible. (it looks the same when I use my old eduke as well as mapster, but my old eduke won't save screenshots, so I had to use mapster.)

I'll be trying to fix it soon, I didn't even see the problem until now, and I thank you for pointing it out.

First, I'd suggest adding some dithering to the photos before converting to 256 colors, alternatively import as hightiles

Second, I somehow managed to blow up the room after the crushers without unlocking the other door...

I think I found the problem, certain parts of the sky move, others don't, creating a very irritating sky glitch... it seems, and I'll have to dig further to be certain, that I used two different pictures for the skybox, one that moves, one that doesn't. So I'll be fixing that soon, hopefully... as for the polymer glitch, all I can say is the map was made on a mapster from 2014, and it wasn't made for polymer... just keep it as old school as you can. :D

After playing through the map I realised I wasn't meant to blow up the area after the crushers (I placed a laser trip bomb trying to kill the Protector Drone.

I like your mod, it captures the spirit of the original Penthouse Paradise. Also it's insanely long.

I would suggest adding some sort of clue to the button combo puzzles. 2^6 combinations are a tad much to go at blindly.

that happens, even in polymer specific maps. it's random as far as I can tell, but it seems more prone to do so after a save/load, & occurs most often around swinging doors.

if you decide to fix he sky and update the map, you might want to consider putting in clues for the 6-button puzzle. From what I read, the map is already large enough & doesn't need a puzzle that will deter several people from completing it without cheating, just to drag out the game play, or introduce an unnecessary & annoying puzzle.

Liked the map. The 6-button combo puzzles were a drag, though - almost made me quit. I had some issues pressing the Nukebutton at the end, probably to all the girls around. It also would have been nice if the new props and girls were destructible, but they weren't in Penthouse Paradise either.

One more issue: it seems that if, in the collapsing room with the drone and the four buttons (after the crushers), if you trigger the explosions but manage to escape alive, then the level seems to be unbeatable because the collapsing tunnel at the end will already be closed off. Either that, or something else triggered its collapse.

I encountered that as well, and I intended the collapsing room to be a death trap... nevertheless, I will put it on my list of things to try to work out while I fix the sky. :dukecigar:

Two hints, I learned on my first ever map, the very hard way.

1. Make sure all C-9s have a number. The one's that do not, could be triggered by any other explosion, and can in turn trigger a numbered one and activate it's sequence.
2. The swing doors. Pivot sprite (SE23) needs to be in such a position that when the door is open, it does not swing into another sector, even a little bit can give nasty results.

Little update. I haven't been able to work on it, but I'm planning on working on it soon. I will be re-releasing the map sometime later this year, projected for Christmas Eve, I know it's a long way away, but with work I won't be able to work on it too often, plus Atomic Crisis and other things not Duke/game related. But expect a complete fix to the sky, explosion glitches, mapping errors, as well as some new things that I originally intended but didn't have the time e to do the first go around. I apologize again for releasing this the way I did, expect future releases from me to be more professional, and complete. If you find any new bugs upon replaying it between now and Christmas Eve, please let me know. I want to make sure everything is taken care of. Until then, I hope you enjoy what I already released.

Another update:

Just fixed the sky, no more misalignment. So, expect that, among some other things, to be in this year's re-release of Met-Art Miracle. If you find any other bugs, please let me know before December. Also, upon release I'll be doing an entire new forum for it, complete with one single download link... that way we can forget the atrocity that was this very rushed and clumsy release. :(
