Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour

Same here! But color me interested in the add-on. Like others have said I'm not a huge fan of the PAL 2 with a few flame & smoke effects.. Maybe when it's in motion it will look better.. Too bad there isn't like an orange PAL. Maybe it would look better with more of those flames.

Earlier I had a theory that modern devs are not skilled for retro 2.5D FPS because it's a completely different way of making a game. This only comforts me in my opinion.

Honestly I may be harsh, okay, let's wait and see. Perhaps those are early screens and this will be ALL fixed and better.

But it clearly isn't promising. I'm afraid they "leaked" those screenshots on purpose, which is what modern advertising is all about, which would mean that they are what they want to show.

But as mentioned, they made an excellent and very well received by fans add-on for Doom 2, No Rest For The Living. If you want to get a sneak peak at critiquing this developer's skill at oldschool level design, you could always play it. I agree with the aesthetic critiques everybody is making, but I think the levels will be a lot of fun to play, and probably have well done architecture as well.

Hmm - All this hype for the add-on only? I hope they have a new game cooking already where this add-on is only an appetizer for us B)

How about a Duke Nukem movie while we're at it? :P I'd love a teaser for a new Duke game too, but my guess is that's some years off still.

Another re-release done by a terrible studio, with a shitty template website that looks like an intern modified it.

Glad they are taking the IP seriously :P

New episode dude, new maps, new lines, possibly other stuff, if that doesn't interest you I don't know what to tell ya. What were you expecting? A new Duke game will take years and it wasn't in development a year ago.

Why should I be excited to buy the same game again for the twenty thousandth time. New episode? big deal, there are plenty of great episodes people have made in the community and it doesn't require me to re-buy the game again.

Judging by the quality of the site and the screenshots this is just a lazy cash in from Gearbox.

I think this can be an OK gift, if it's using a proper modern engine, comes to current gen consoles, and includes plenty of screen filtering options. Coop/multiplayer aswell. This could be damn fun on my PS4 I think...
And it would be a great move if they would release it for free. Highly doubt it, though.

Never the less, it will be better than Nintendo's 30 Years Anniversary of Metroid for sure :P

Money/value talking aside, why wouldn't a new episode of Duke 3D be considered a cool thing? Yes, it's also cool when the community makes them. Doesn't mean it's not cool when Nerve software makes one, with Jon St. John lines and stuff. And let's at least let them present it officially before fully critiquing it. I'm assuming there'll be a cool trailer next Friday.

If you're disappointed because it's not a new game, that'll come sometime down the line for sure. I'm just not sure why you'd expect one to be ready to show next week, if that's what you were wanting for the 20th anniversary.

If I had to guess a price, I'll say... $15. It may go as high as $20, which I remember people felt was too high for Turok, and I doubt it'll go for $9.99 which is what Shadow Warrior Redux currently goes for. $9.99 would get more people to buy it though, I'd be fine with $15 myself.

Lazy cash-ins are the only things self-proclaimed hardcore Duke fans like.
A new game? Oh hell no, it's gonna suck, it wouldn't be Duke, nobody understands Duke except us! Duke is about nothing but shooting at shit in random levels!
A new release of Duke3D? Yeah, those were good games! Bad graphics make a game automatically good, story in a game is like story in a porn, let me gobble up all the 20-year-old rotten meat you're selling me as if it was fresh!

I don't understand the style of arguing against a theoretical/hypothetical opinion. Plenty of fans have expressed interest in a new Duke game, it isn't a re-release vs a new game. A re-release is happening now in the present, and sometime in the future you'll be reading a topic about a new Duke game. And even in this very topic I've mentioned my love for DNF.

Nobody has said this will automatically be good, it's actually gotten a lot of scrutiny. I personally think it'll most likely be good since Nerve software has been groovy in the past.

There is no new Duke game, and there will never be, because the majority of newcomers only knows Duke as that vaporware game that used to never come out and then disappointed a lot of people, while most old timers think Duke lost its magic and the only thing worth having is Duke3D. I want a new Duke game, but I know I'm not gonna get it because I'm in the minority. Financially speaking, a new Duke game is not a viable option because it would only bring in losses for Gearbox. And lots of hate.

That's baseless and you'll most likely be proven wrong in the future, in my opinion. You're talking in a lot of generalities, and we already know Gearbox has talked about wanting to get a new Duke game going. I'm an oldschool fan, also DNF has 69% positive user reviews on steam, sold well etc. Shadow Warrior, more obscure and less marketable than Duke I think, just got two new games. But, we're all entitled to our speculation.

They already backpedalled on misogyny, due to the complaints. The next step is to also backpedal on new Duke games.

I say its going to be free. But weapons 6-0 will be DLC. All the girls are DLC too.

I'm joking.

I just hope its something worth a countdown. I really don't mind what it is; new game, old game mod. Its attention to Duke.

If there really is a pre-order button, I would expect a preorder announcement. I don't see why they would do a physical release for DN3D unless it were something like the Metal Gear collections that had every single game.

So who are the level designers working on this? I wonder of some community members are involved.

If anyone from the community was working on it I doubt they would be able to say due to NDA. I think community people are more involved with the Prequel though.

It'd be pretty funny if Levelord or even Pitchford were doing maps for this given the complaints about details in the screenshots, hopefully someone from Gearbox is watching these threads and makes a note of the issues pointed out. The Bombshell prequel screenshots look better than this in terms of aesthetics.

Honestly, all these issues won't actually matter; Gearbox is already a well known company, shading issues or texture alignments etc etc aren't going to matter when they pretty much have a guaranteed feature on every gaming website, and the general populance will view it as what it is: awesome.

Interesting, just curious how you know this, and if you have more specific info to share in particular? Nobody from Nerve who worked on that is working on this? Is there a leak? Who told you this? :P

Maybe there's an alternate weapon for each weapon now. The chaingun could regain a plasma rifle counterpart, the pipebomb could have a poison gas variant, some of the extras in Duke Nukem 64 like dum dums for the pistol, explosive shells for the shotgun, homing rockets for the rocket launcher, the devastator could rapidly fire the mines that Battlelords use against you, a timed variant of the tripbomb, the laser chainsaw and the sonic resonator...

Heh. I wonder how people would react if itr was announced that the game was "free", but episodes 2 and 3, as well as every weapon after the RPG, were DLC.

Actually every weapon after the Pipebombs. The Pipebombs could be found in episode 1 as well. Only Shrinker, Devastator, Laser Trip Bomb and Freezethrower weren't available in the first episode.

I will laugh like crazy when Bombshell prequel which is basically fanmade work is going to be way better than Gearbox new episode.

Shame that good level design is going to be ruined by crap lighting and lazy sprites work and we have yet to see what kind of writing their episode has. I want to believe that these screenshots are just old and the game is still being made, but it's very difficult.
