This takes over from the old 3DR forums thread regarding the HRP itself.

I am struggling with whether to issue an update for June 1 or not. There's not much to release, so it will be probably delayed till July 1. Hopefully, more stuff is available till then.

maybe a littlke update could help to keep up the morale...

While I'm not a huge HRP fan I think an update, even a small one would be a good thing given the current circumstances.

If nothing else, you can include an updated version of Duke Plus. There have been significant additions and bug fixes (and will be more before June 1).

Duke Plus has never been part of the update pack itself, but nothing speaks against putting up the new version over at Parkar's (and my) site as a separate download. It is already there now, and any version you have till June 1 can be uploaded over there, then.

However, the idea can be discussed whether an update pack should concern ALL core components of an HRP installation, i.e. also new EDuke32 binaries (if available), maphacks and the mod if need be. This way, the need to download files separately could be minimized.

Guys, did anyone mess around with the wiki to-do list? I am asking because all the entries there have been deleted...

*UPDATE*
OK, brought them back. *Whew* That reminded me to keep a backup. ;)

I think it makes sense to do that if those things have been updated. There's some bug fixes in DP since the version included with the HRP that I would really like people to have.

Also, I have a question. Do new HRP users have to download the full package and then download the latest update pack? Or are the update packs integrated into the full package so that new users can just download one file?

Just bring pack the last version from the Wiki. It keeps track of all the edits so you can just undo the one that removed all of it.

Only when a new installer is released so you have to download two files to be fully up to date.

Duke Plus v2.01 can be downloaded from the "Update Pack Files" section on the HRP site now. What I have changed compared to DT's original version is minor:

* Removed one remaining "thumbs.db" file ("scraps" subdir in resource zipfile)
* Removed EDuke32/Mapster32 binaries (other standalone download on HRP site didn't have it, too)
* PNG optimization, saving file size

Would you mind sending me the PNGs you optimized so that I can replace the ones I have for future DP releases?

Since DT didn't say anything I guess it was OK but I think it might be a good idea to keep the eduke32 binaries in the package since there could be some feature or fix that Duke Plus needs to function correctly compared to the eduke32 that comes with the installer. In fact it should probably be the same files DT hosts as well, it just increases confusion.

Well, in this case it's OK because the binaries haven't changed since HRP v4 release, but as soon as TX releases new EDuke32 snapshot, I will keep the files in there. (Actually, I am not going to change anything again, then.) This way, it'll be also more like a real update.

@DT:
I think the easiest way for you is to just download the pack from the HRP site and replace your resource zip contents with what's inside the HRP release (just don't forget to remove the remaining "thumbs.db" in your version, then). I am writing this because basically all the pngs are concerned.

This will be the last time I "mess around" with the mod on my own, promise. http://forums.duke4....tyle_emoticons/default/tongue.gif Just trying to optimize it as much as possible. Most of the PNGs could be reduced to at least 70% of their original size. It is much easier if DT's original file is just mirrored, I know, and I want to do that, too. Forgive me for being a perfectionist, I am always trying to squeeze the optimum filesize out of a release, sorry. :P

No problem. I want to reduce file size too, I just didn't know there was that much optimization that could be done.

Including the latest binaries isn't as important as it used to be, since EDuke32 now has an auto-update feature. In the old days, before I included the binaries, I would frequently get complaints about CON errors from people using binaries too old to compile the latest CON commands.

A little info about what is currently inside current HRP Update build (it ain't much!):

HRP v4.1 (06-01-2009)
---------------------
> Added:
	 - highres\skyboxes: 94
	 - highres\sprites\props: 4427 (pal0/14)
	 - highres\textures: 400, 443, 959, 3407 (pal5/14), 4177, 4202, 4207

> Fixes:
	 - highres\screen\menu: 2813-2820 (icon rotation), 3190-3196 (icon texture)

> Revisions:
	 - highres\sprites\characters: 1405 (pal0/10-16/21/23, face)
	 - highres\sprites\props: 595 (texture)
	 - highres\sprites\signs: 1044
	 - highres\textures: 3407 (pal24)

I am posting this for you to see if anything is in there that shouldn't be (e.g. the new HUD icons - are the original
ones the right ones or these?) and of course for general info about contents progress. Whether the release
will be June 1 or not is still to be decided.

I have decided to stick to July 1 as release date for HRP UP 4.1. With my new job as community manager, I have much more duties which will result in reduced time for this project. Nevertheless, I will keep doing my stuff here. I will just not have the presence known from 3DR boards.

Anyway, the contents of the update shouldn't change much till July, so unless there are problems, the current beta can be considered to be pretty final already.

The number of textures is the number that got pictures in ART files ? (I've just read the ToDo list on wiki).

What I have listed in the todo list are all the tiles that are actually used in the official D3D campaigns. The other ones may be important for some mods, but our general agreement was to concentrate on finishing the original game stuff first.

So they're just need-to-update pictures and models ?

Basically, yes. Everything found in the todo list is still in its old shape, i.e. 8bit lowres textures or 2D sprites. Eliminating as many entries as possible from that list should be the primary goal of this project. Therefore, you have to create highres replacements. :)

As announced in the art assets thread, there are now beta versions of new HRP releases. If no problems come up, these will become final on July 1.

Links for June 26 beta test version of HRP v4.1/DukeDC HRP v1.51:

> HRP Update v4.1 (June 29 beta, 14.6 MB) *UPDATED*
> Maphacks v4.1 (June 26 beta, 132 KB)
> DukeDC HRP v1.51 (June 27 beta, 43.1 MB)

*EDIT*
RELEASED:
HRP Update Pack v4.1
Maphacks Reloaded v4.1
DukeDC HRP v1.51

> If you have already downloaded latest beta versions, you already have final releases. No need to download again.
> From now on, you can ONLY download from Parkar's site. My site has been shut down because it didn't make sense any more to have two sites.
