Bombshell

Well it's here and it's a fucking disappointment!

From the creators of 2013’s Rise of the Triad comes Bombshell, an isometric action role-playing game for PC and PlayStation 4. Bomb Disposal Specialist turned mercenary for hire, Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison must strong-arm her away across 4 planets in an Unreal Engine-powered galatic adventure to rescue the president from an apocalyptic alien threat. With out-of-this-world enemies, a never-before-seen arsenal of devastating weaponry and a host of genre-crossing mechanics, Bombshell is set to blow you away.

KEY FEATURES

History in the Breaking
Be part of Bombshell’s debut as she fights to save her president and her people from a maniac’s mechanical monstrosity.

Brave New Worlds
Traverse the dying world of Kyrron as it’s consumed by its neighboring sun, discover the secrets of a civilization frozen in time on the distant world of Zeroth and travel to the epitome of technology -- a villain’s vision which threatens to consume all that exists.

Robot-Armed and Dangerous
Shell, shock and shatter your way through vicious, bloodthirsty predators, an augmented alien species, and the remnants of an ancient race re-animated, with more than 10 weaponized arm modifications.

Isometric Ingenuity
Brilliantly brutal top-down shooting layered with classic role-playing mechanics, including experience points, upgrades, side quests, and non-linear levels.

Heavy Handed
Fierce finishing moves and interactive environments make Bombshell as dynamic as she is deadly.

What Are You Lookin’ At?
Yeah, she has a metal arm. Deal with it.

I'll get to calling Interceptor liars later, but for now I'll give my thoughts on the trailer.

For starters, the character design is horrible, the hairstyle is ugly and that robot arm is too bulky, it should be more slim.
That motorcycle part was lackluster and the line at the end was crap, didn't even chuckle.
Seriously change that fucking hair style or at least give us mod tools so we'll be able to change it ourselves, fuck I hate the way she looks.
I made it better in a 60 second Photoshop

Extremely disappointed, I wish Bombshell stayed as an idea.
I won't be buying it.

What are you're thoughts on this lie reveal

Was going to make a neutral thread without personal thoughts in the OP, but this'll do I guess
I think it'll be cool.

Also, I can see some one-liners getting repurposed
(Bombshell realizes she has no tampons. "GOTTA MAKE TIME TO BLEED")

They shoulda called it STRYKER and let you play as this dude in HD as he fixes clogged toilets in intricately designed levels.

Looks interesting. I am for one going to buy it. I believe in Interceptor and I think they have to prove themselves before touching Duke Nukem. Looks interesting. Also - stop calling them liars. They are acutally in a lawsuit with Gearbox fighting for their rights - that I believe, along others such as Termin, they DO in fact have. Good luck to Fred and Interceptor/3D Realms. Hopefully you will win over Gearbox and make a kick-ass game :)

I can't say that I'm not disappointed.
I think the trailer is bad and I don't like her design too.

But screenshots look great.

I'm not really interested for now.
Maybe that's because I was expecting something else... I really wanted it to be a Duke game.

Edit: But it's not a reason to hate Interceptor and call them liars. I can understand why they decided to scrap Duke from the game and start a new IP. I hope the game will be good. :)

I'm not saying the game looks bad. But the character looks like Jack from Mass Effect and Federova from Deus Ex had a lesbian baby.

I don't hate it just because of the lies and yes they did lie, I don't like it because I just don't like it, I dislike the character design a lot, I really hate that hairstyle, that robot arm is just too bulky, I always thought Bombshell would be a slim and quick character when she was with Duke cause Duke is like the Tank with the fire power and Bombshell would be the quick athletic one with all the slick fighting skills, but that robot arm is just too bulky, if they removed those bulky armor parts from her shoulder and forearm it could be a bit better.

Believe it or not, I really want to like it, but they have a lot of patching up to do.

Well, I would have preferred something like the old DNF art:

I can understand the disappointment. I mean, I did rant about it enough didn't I? This is the huge difficulty that Interceptor was faced with and even from the ignorant position I was holding prior to learning more, this was going to happen. I do feel they should have at the very least released a statement saying "We can't talk about it right now." Some months ago. I know they couldn't go any further than that, especially now, but that would have clued the general audience in a little more succinctly that things were... That expectations should be changed. People were holding out hope right until the bitter end. With theories of how maybe it was just a diversion and Duke would still be around. The legal situation just wouldn't permit that, i'm afraid.

If you want to get mad at someone though, get mad at Gearbox as they caused this situation. I do have faith, that in future, interceptor will deliver a Duke game.

I'll repost my thoughts from the DN:MD thread here.

Like I said, I'm pretty much okay with stuff so far. Not too big on the hairdo, I think that could do with a bit of DLC at least. Give her a bunch of different hairstyles for customization. Spike it up, or give it a more classic look (what is often perceived as the classically termed "bombshell" look.)

Otherwise I really want to see the game in action!

The trailer has a few issues. It generally gives off the right vibes. However, I have a few nits to pick there. I think it could be a little shorter given the content, the flame effect when she's on the bike is a little dodgy. The one liner didn't impress.(Though I think the voice actor sounds fitting, I just think the line lacks context) It ultimately does what it's intended to, (re)introduces the character for the 21st Century.

Things to note:
There's a female president?
The designs of the aliens seem similar to those seen in Duke3D.
The EDF/GDF troopers seem to be very similar to their DNF counterparts.
Bombshell's kneepad appears to have a scratched off EDF(GDF?) logo.
Bombshell's belt buckle says "short fuse" which is a nice insight into her personality.
The shotgun she picks up looks very similar to the model/mesh that was in Duke Reloaded.
Her bike features her bombshell logo.
Nice touch with the robo-hand breaking the glass.

<- needs to be in the "full" release trailer. Posted Image

Seems like a missed opportunity to not make her blonde. Maybe it was a conscious decision to break the stereotype, but even just a simple change of hair color alone would help distinguish her from the surprising other number of female characters (and Skrillex) who share the same dark, half-haired appearance.

New IP? This is not an original IP from Interceptor, every Duke fan knows Bombshell was a character that was meant to be in DNF as Duke's partner before she was replaced by Dylan, 3D Realms came up with the idea back in 97, Scott Miller even confirmed that on his FB for newcomers who didn't know.

I know, I have posted 2 artwork of bombshell from DNF. But it's the first time she appear in a game. So it's "new".
(I have nothing to learn about Duke, I'm a fan since DN2 and I have all the games. :) )

Somewhere in this forum there was talk, years back, about the name 'Bombshell' being registered by 3D Realms. Now I know how the character may look like. Posted Image
I like the character so far, plain and simple. It's a new title for a new game, no remake, no serial - yes, yes, yes.

Yeah and what ? She was not in the final game, she did not appear in any other games or media. So it's new.
I have seen the 97 trailer, and I have the book with the artwork and screenshot you have linked. I know what I'm talking about. I just don't use the good words. But I'm sure you understand me...

Edit: Just a quote frome the official site:

"Ultimately, we saw it as the opportunity to create our own intellectual property, and Bombshell was born. So far, it’s been a blast."

The character was created in 96/97, but this is a new IP because it was never used before.

It's probably lost in the translation but when you say she never "appeared" you're not being accurate. She did appear. No, not in any release, but we were definitely fully aware of Bombshell and what her character was all about from various magazine interviews and the 1998 trailer.

Her original origin/inspiration is the Pamela Anderson vehicle "Barbwire" from the mid 90s. Indeed, Bombshell's initial appearance is very similar to Anderson. Posted Image

Yeah, That's what I wanted to say. She was never used in any release.

Sorry, that's why I rarely take part in conversations, I'm not really good in english. (And I'm going back to lurking. :) )

Edit: And sorry for the -1 reputation, it was unintentional.

Interceptor didn't create Bombshell, they're just finishing the idea that came up back in 97, Bombshell was its own IP way back then, also it's using remaining assets from Duke Reloaded and Mass Destruction. Though I don't blame them for that, if you have em use em.

I'm in. We get Bombshell and this game will probably kill the 'Duke is irrelevant' attitude some of the press have been spewing around. Plus, Interceptor seems to get the character. She doesn't like Duke according to her bio - if lawsuits don't get in the way, it will be fun to see Duke and Bombshell forced to work together with Duke desperately trying to impress her. Not only am I interested in this game, it makes me want more Duke too. Hopefully it will do the same for others.

Is the shotgun in the trailer from Duke Nukem 3D Reloaded? It seems awfully familiar, same with the helicopter...

So, Interceptor, you may want to tweak the design just a bit. Just tweaking the hair style a bit would be a smart move, or like I suggested before, some kind of character customization/DLC.

If you wanna be anal about her looks, why not throw in how common that hairstyle was in the 70's and 80's?

BOO! Unoriginal! They went with a look that already kinda existed, boo, boo, that's not how it's supposed to work!

Is it?
