Project Ascender and Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction. Unless they are the same game.

There is Pathfinder and Project Acsender. I think this is Ascender because if you think about it, top down and ascender go well together.

Alien Shooter is probably a good example. It's old but fun http://store.steampo....com/app/33100/

Edit: Although the details are probably outdated on the site, it does mention Pathfinder is a FPS unless they somehow drastically changed it then this is Project Ascender http://interceptor-e...lio/pathfinder/

it could work if done right I suppose

While I agree it's possible. Things like regenerating health, a two weapon limit, and even a day time vegas could theoretically work if done well. And we all know how that turned in the other situation...
What I'm trying to say is that it's much easier to end up with a good product if you start off with the right ingredients as opposed to questionable ones.

Why a top down? I mean were they legally incapable of making a FPS? The Duke franchise hasn't had a good FPS in almost 20 years, it shouldn't be a lot to ask for.

That could be the case. Maybe that was part of the arrangement between Interceptor, 3DR and Gearbox? Interceptor can make a Duke game, so long it's not a traditional shooter. That way it's not in competition with Gearbox's next-generation Duke FPS.

I wasn't expecting a top-down action role-playing game. Seems super bizarre on paper. XP, tech trees, new weapons and enemies. Does that mean there's loot in a Duke game? Weird.

I am glad that they are trying something new.
Seriously, I like ROTT, but I think that they don't have the budget and the team to do a good Duke Nukem FPS.
And I'm a bit sick of Pigcops and Lizards.

I hope that they are doing a muliplayer mode. This type of game is good for coop.

Edit: I think that they should do FPS for the main games and they should play with new ideas et gameplay for the spin offs. (just my opinion)

I can see things like tech trees and stuff working. Customizing your guns and stuff would be very cool.

As far as leveling up goes. Well, that's down to how the combat is handled. If it plays like a typical grindy-RPG then no. If it plays like an action game, where shooting stuff is more important the making the player have to build his levels, then it'll be fine. Being able to upgrade certain special abilities, things like that. It could work.

It's all in the fear of the unknown. I think Interceptor may have a few good ideas here. We'll see.

Lets ruin the Duke Nukem series even more... lets make a stealth squad based rpg, with regenerating health and while we are at it lets make Duke Nukem a pacifist and an advocate for feminism. I mean clearly staying with the series roots is not the way to go. Lets just put the final nail in the coffin and get it done with.

At first I was thinking of "Age of Duke" which just filled me with dread. I thought back to another game that I played once and if they do it in that style, I think they could be onto a winner.

I was thinking of this:

Imagine Duke having to battle hordes of critters coming at him from all sides. He has to get under a huge blast door, so he has to go find the parts to make a shrinker. It could be pretty good, especially if there is multiplayer.

Oh, and anyone from Interceptor who is reading this, please pay close attention to the screen at 54 seconds on that YouTube vid. Thanks.

Who's to say that first-person view couldn't be modded into the game? :(

Good call.

I was personally thinking of a tech-style Diablo game. Action-RPG.

Lol, so I make a RPG on Garrys Mod with Duke Nukem and these guys go and do something very similar.
Can't they come up with something original?

If there's anything this game needs, it's more poop, swearing, and sex.

We need all the degeneracy of Dead or Alive XTreme Beach Volleyball along with all the bestiality of Mass Effect.

Even if that could be done, I have serious doubts about how well it would work. Changing one simple mechanic doesn't automatically alter the entire style of play.

I don't think I've ever been less excited about a Duke game upon its announcement. At least we still have the recently-revived Half Life mod....

If they keep in mind that people will probably want to change the camera angle, there shouldn't be any major problems with it. Who knows, maybe it will have a secondary, first-person view mode. We're going to have to wait and see.

Also, I'm wondering if they just decided to take that website down since it's pretty much been spoiled now?

The sad thing even if this turns out to be successful game... it's still the wrong game. And that's IF.

What they should do with that website now is release a wallpaper or screenshot when it hits 10,000 likes.

I'd rather see a wallpaper of Duke or Bombshell. Or both together. I'm curious to see what they're going to look like.

Almost anything is called "Action RPG" these days. The first thing that popped in my mind was Postal or Alien Shooter.

It's not gonna be a Fallout, but a top down action game with skill/weapon unlocks as an "rpg" element. Maybe it's better than nothing, but when the main 'series' is lacking, I don't want any spin-offs.
