They won't release the XEN levels at first though. But I think the rest of the game is enough for some good action.

And tbh, the more polish they put into XEN (and the gameplay there) the better.

They are missing about 4 levels I think. It's still a lot of content though and I'm sure those levels will only be a month or two longer away. I never liked the final levels of Half-Life so I hope they are better.

Xen is a tiny part of the game so we should still have enough to play ;)

So in Valve Time, that would be... what, November 30th?

Bit disappointed that the Xen chapters won't be in the initial release. Unlike the majority I actually liked them.

Currently listening to the soundtrack, some really good shit in there.

They said they are going to expand the Xen levels so that they are actually going to be a whole game into themselves. It'll be interesting to see just how they are going to do this and have it be good.

Anyway, it's hard to believe that they are close to a release. I'm cautiously optimistic.

I'm glad that Xen will be coming as a larger chapter. I always thought Xen was a great concept, just poorly executed. And lets be honest, even for 1998, it had some bad brushwork and texture-work compared to the rest of the game.

I hope they can still keep the jumping puzzles intact while making them less frustrating. I always actually liked Xen for the reason that I really enjoy first-person platforming, and despite that part's flaws, i think the rest of the game did a pretty decent job of getting you to understand your physical form and how to make those kinds of jumps, even if the LJ module wasn't explained enough.

I'd wager that was because Valve was getting sick-o-dis-bulllshiet and just wanted to release the game.

Honestly, XEN needed more mind-bendery and less jump puzzles. The game wasn't cut out for the kinds of jump puzzles they were trying to plug in. I'd have loved more gravity stuff, changing orientation, messing with the FOV, and more large alien vistas.

Can't wait to play this remake, FINALLY. Posted Image

And why can't we do this with Duke? I tell you, and Levelord agrees with me, the IP is cursed.

No, just unsupportive devs. Valve is, by far the most supportive game company of the PC world. WoW is supported like hell, but still a money grabbin series of games. Diablo 3 $60? No, not worth it. What Counterstrike Global Offensive was 15$? There we go.

I'm not really getting what you mean by "so soon"
So soon? Wtf are you talking about?
You do know they've been working at this since hl2 came out, right?
It's been in the works for 8 years.
They kept scrapping their work and remaking the content at a higher standard, every time they learned something new or got a better mapper on their team.
And every time a considerable source engine update came out, they would try to port their entire work to the newest version so they could take advantage of the newest shaders and optimizations.

So soon after they started releasing screenshots and stuff, I expected a date to be further off once we got it.

People amaze me. Apparently, some people believe it would be a dick move for the BM team to not allow people to use their assets without permission?

The fuck?

People confuse mods with open source projects just for the fact they both are free. Idiots.

Oh Yeahhhhhh!

http://www.blackmesasource.com/

Countdown has started.

I'm really happy for them and I'm going to be downloading this at first opportunity. The only game I'm looking forward to more is the Phobos mod for D3.

But it just really puts the nail in the coffin for Duke. On that page is a simple line that states:

"© 2004-2012 BLACK MESA MODIFICATION TEAM. VALVE, STEAM & HALF-LIFE TRADEMARKS OF VALVE SOFTWARE"

Why can't Duke's publishers not be such douches?

Maybe he somehow got caught between our time and Valve Time which resulted in some quantum interferences and made the countdown appear for him only today?

EDIT @ Lunick:
Just saw your question above. No, BM will not be on Steam on Friday. A dev just confirmed that. But he does not know how long it will take to be on Steam.
