Hard Reset  "with a tangent on other PC singleplayer FPS's."

So I'm sure everyone here's heard of Hard Reset; the PC exclusive FPS with no multiplayer. It's actually a lot like DNF should have been (interactivity, destructible environments, able to hold lots of weapons), and the demo seemed pretty fun.

But has anyone actually played the full version yet? I think it was released 5 days ago, and was wondering if the gameplay got repetitive at all as I gather it did with Bulletstorm.

On a side note, does anyone think big PC games with epic singleplayer campaigns are on the return? DNF, Deus Ex: HR, Bulletstorm and now Hard Reset have all been released this year alone, which is probably more than the last few years combined, and it looks like Serious Sam 3 and Max Payne 3 are on the way (as well as Prey 2 but we'll see how that turns out...)

I know TX is playing the game and so am I.

I don't think the game is repetitive at all as you are set mission type goals although you would do them anyway if you were playing the game.

Hard Reset is awesome. I'm only a few levels in but I'm thoroughly enjoying it. There's a ton of secret areas and some VERY classic style gameplay going on, and it doesn't suffer from being too easy (granted, I am playing on the hardest skill level available).

OK, from the top. It's a FPS. If I want to play with my brains I go online and play chess. Not sure what is meant by repetitive. A FPS by definition is a must have repeat action game. Why? Glad you asked; one shoots actors, a lot of times. Anyway, tt has secrets, interesting weapons and plays almost like Doom, but with cool graphics. I like it. Posted Image
Should you get it? It has a demo on Steam, take it for a spin and see for yourself. Posted Image

Playing the demo was like playing the trailer. Yes, the graphics are great, but I did'nt enjoy much the gam eitself (talking about the demo). The secrets were really easy to find and, where are the damn mazes they promised? I felt inside an endless corridor, I even couldn't avoid the robot atacks strafing! Painkiller was great, but Hard Reset doesn't seem so brilliant, at least for me.
I'm planing to preorder Serious Sam 3, this gonna be awesome.

Of course the secrets were easy to find and there were no mazes... the demo is the first level of the game. It's like a tutorial level, really. They probably should have thrown in a level from later in the game after that one.

But are all the levels out in the streets or are there some nice indoor locations as well? Everything I've seen is outdoors. It would also be nice to have a bit of a sewer section IMO.

if you want sewers, go get Duke 3D. There might be sewers.

Also, the CEO may issue modding tools, ergo you can make your very own sewer level.
Can't find it in english, just use goolge tranlator for the below link

I beat Hard Reset a couple days ago and overall it's a pretty good experience. The setting is beautiful and runs smoothly. This is probably the most stable release of a PC game I've seen in years. I haven't had a single crash or any bugs. The guns are cool and feel great ripping robots to shreds and destroying everything around me. Unfortunately, maps are very linear and way too simplified for the old school crowd to embrace long term. Movement is somewhat slow with a worthless 3 second sprint. Invisible walls are everywhere guiding you to the next set piece and arena style battles. You're constantly rewarded for exploration, but it's designed like an Easter egg hunt for toddlers. In other words, if you aren't blind and can walk you'll find all the secrets without much trouble. Once things start getting really exciting and you feel like a badass the game suddenly ends with the biggest tease ever. For its current price I can only recommend Hard Reset to people who are dying for a Blade Runner inspired mindless shooter. At $10 (1/3 the price of HR) you can have way more fun with Painkiller if you haven't played that one yet. Wait for a holiday sale or if they release a major expansion such as online coop. Otherwise the game will be forgotten in less than a month.

If you feel like picking up the game a little cheaper you can get it for about 5 bucks from http://www.indieroyale.com/

Several months after my last post I have to admit the people at Flying Wild Hog are doing a pretty good job supporting their game. They patched the hell out of it and significantly balanced gameplay. No more 3 second sprint! Although it is still limited, but not nearly as bad. A separate skirmish mode (think Killing Floor without other players) was added along with new maps. The Extended Edition was just released in stores and should be on Steam as DLC "soon". It has a longer singleplayer campaign, more maps, an upgraded graphics engine, and some other stuff maybe. No multiplayer coop, which is a bummer.

[Edit] It was just revealed the Extended Edition will be released as a free addon between the end of April/beginning of May to anybody who already owns Hard Reset on Steam.

I acquired a free Steam key for this game. Haven't played it yet, though.

What do you mean a free steam key?
Is it being given away somewhere or did somebody gift it to you?

I didn't buy it. Someone bought that indieroyale bundle and put the Steam key for it up for grabs. I grabbed it because I like free stuff.

It was mentioned that owners of Hard Reset would retroactively be given access to Hard Reset Extended Edition. It still just says "Hard Reset" only. Is it the Exile DLC add extra that's the only difference? I do have that and don't remember redeeming it...

EDIT: I see now that it is basically just the DLC. Nice. And now it's getting a remake hah.

That's on my birthday and I really liked that game ! (I did 100% achievements....)

Those new human-like enemies in the video don't look very interesting...

They also said they changed gameplay (tweaking difficulties to be more even throughout the game as I understood it). They added new (bleeding, i.e. human) enemies. And it shortens the time until SW2 for me with the added katana. :)

I don't know about the DLC but it's probably included, after all IIRC I did get it for free in the first place so why would they make me buy it now? The 2min video on the Steam page shows stuff from the Exile DLC.

That DLC is the best part of the game btw. Best level design, best gameplay with new enemies, completely different kind of environments.

They look kinda out of place, and it seems that all they do is rush towards the player, but there is already an enemy which acts similarly (the human like robots).

The Steam page claims there are "various variants" of this new enemy though.

Previous owners will get 85% off Hard Reset Redux.

Price is $19.99 with a 10% off for the Pre-order period. $3 for people who own the original Hard Reset or Shadow Warrior (2013).
