Although I have no problem with sexually charge comments from many people..you are not one of those people. Kindly shut up.

But the major question is, why dont you guys want it, heck what are you guys doing here then discussing about this game?

I'm not impressed by what they are showing so far. I am tired of seeing the same scenes over and over; I want to see something besides the whores getting up from sucking Duke's tool and kids making penis jokes with the white board. Show more of the actual game and less of the tutorial intro which is just a remake of Stadium (one of the least interesting levels in Duke 3D).

I've been waiting close to half my life for a game that has been marketed as pure PC gaming for the better part of the last 2 decades and now all I get to see is xbox controller prompts and a game that looks to be consolized. Of course I'm going to be a little underwhelmed. The last time there was substantial media was almost a decade ago and that media was still PC gaming media.

Some people may feel betrayed, I know I feel a little betrayed, like I was teased for the past 14 years and the end result is less than pleasing.

I'm not about to say that I'm not buying the game but I want to see something more than these little short previews before I make any decisions.

Mr.Flibble said it all in a very polite way and I thank him for his contribution.

Simply can't agree more, the excitement is all gone and honestly I don't know if those guys at that demo preview never saw DNF in action before or they were carefully selected to make up so called "Potemkin villages", but even when I saw HD footage all I said, ok nice, last map of episode 3 - Stadium with bad weather (AKA damn it's raining again) and two same blonde chicks at the end.

However there is a light at the end of the tunnel - if the level editor is released and good enough we might get fixed what was screwed elsewhere, obviously this 2 weapons limitations has to be gone too but it will not only require remake of the hud and add a few cvars but also a remaked maps suited for carrying more guns at one time.

Btw. the game seems to be too easy to me - if he didn't killed him self on purpose he wouldn't die.

my biggest question right now is, how many more of these stupid conventions do they have lined up? My assumption is, once the gaming conventions are over and done with they will move on and finally drop us a trailer or some pics or wallpapers or SOMETHING, so how many special appearances do they have lined up? anyone know?

well it was USA - PAX, EU - FL, AU - Mana bar;
I hope there is no plan for Asia, so hopefully after 16th October.
That's my best guess ;)

I think they should have canceled DNF. After all, just looking at this page it's obvious no one wants it.

They should just scrap everything and make Halo: Reach PC.
;)

Fuck Halo.. Halo has nothing on duke, you sir are an idiot.

Pikachu is a very big troll and everybody from this forum (staff included) knows how big of a troll he is, yet they somehow allowed him to be re-registered here for some reason, after he got banned from here in the past for trolling and then also got banned from the gearbox forums for more trolling.
So watch out for him, he's a menace...

And this is where people reach the stage of realising that DNF is not going to be the mystical, impossible perfection that had been created in their heads.

What I don't understand is everyones continued bitching about the way Duke Nukem Forever is being shown. Sure I agree to an extent that Gearbox could have done a much better job at doing this. But at least we have seen something. At least we have seen progress and seen that the game is alive and coming. Most of all we can see that it has been developed in the right mindset and will be Dukes true ass kicking return.

That is a fucking hell of alot better than anything we have ever had in the past. Even a mere 2 months ago we had nothing. Now before you say that we have had multiple trailers showing DNF in previous builds from the past that is not true. All we saw was scripted events that was not real gameplay and this has been confirmed. What we have seen in 2010 was REAL gameplay and I think we should all be happy with that.

Duke Nukem Forever will not be perfect and we can all finally see that. George Broussard tried admirably but it simply wasn't possible. It took somebody to draw a line and that is where we are today. Despite this it will still be an absolutely amazing, ass-kicking, action packed, voilent, humourous, interactive, sexist, stereotypical and politically incorrect video game... the one we have all been waiting for. No game can live up to 14 years of delays but DNF seems to come close. Just be patient. 2011 is not very far away. ;)

Bullshit, if you looked around, PC Gaming is very much alive. There has been a shit-ton of good PC games released in the last while if you'd open your eyes a little.
And there's already a massive existing library that is still played. Don't just look at commercial games either, there are tons of good free games and fan-games.

I think you should open your eyes. PC games now occupy tiny pathetic little corners of game retailing establishments. Consoles dominate these spaces. It's not utterly dead yet, but it is waning significantly. Some of this is due to people now getting from Steam, the rest is due to piracy that is totally rife in PC gaming. Don't need to modify your PC to run pirated software.

Let me describe it like this, Gearbox is trying to show the world that DNF exists and that its not a big joke. As i said before there is more then what you have saw on YouTube its just a part 1 of the Demo, offcourse the next part is about the Monster Truck riding etc, you saw some parts of it, but i have saw more including the behind closed doors trailer. And alright i admit after a freaking 14 years you would expect a Big Bang. But that aint gonna happen.
Just stay tuned for more. I only just still have to re-wright everything from Dutch to English.

The complaining about the "Xbox controller buttons" is a very simple reason for that, if you get gamers into your booth and you give them 15 minutes play time, in that short time people need to discover the button layout etc. With a controller its mostly all the same, and i can tell you i have played Crysis 2 on a PC and Xbox 360 at Gamescom and i also own Crysis on PC. But they changed the button layout again, couldn't find Cloak, Armor, Speed. With the xbox 360 controller it was already shown me which button what was. So in the end, i could choose for people that having difficulty's understanding the controls or give them a controller and they walk/shoot right off and have a great experience.

That DNF is also coming for the consoles is a publisher idea, if you would be a big publisher like EA, Activision or any other publisher you would also bring it to the consoles because it makes more money. Its not like OH MY GOD we have to make the fans angry! The only problem i see and hope they are going to fix that is, that the PC version of DNF will be delivered uncut and that the consoles will get a "Censored" version.

DNF on consoles is a great idea. Thats why xbox 360 were at the shows to prove it.

Bollocks to that. Two years ago I purchased 5 titles. I couldn't play 3 of them due to bugs and lazy-ass porting of console titles. Yeah, there are home-grown games, and for a while, people like Id and Valve will keep making games. But I can't go into a store and pick up a PC title off the shelf and trust that it will not have some stupid, lame-ass, game-breaking fault with it, then it's all over as far as a main-stream platform.

Found this excellent write up of the playable demo posted by Mad Brahim Disease over on Shacknews. Sounds ace! ;)

Mad Brahmin Disease

.Hokay, most of you know me as a Fallout fan around here but if there's one game that will forever have a special place in my heart, it's Duke 3D. Like many others, I was attempting (and often failing) to play this game in a token ring LAN with my friends, creating my custom .WAV taunts for Dukematch, messing around with BUILD to create my own levels, etc. Coming from the Doom series this game was mind-blowing when it came to interactivity and style. To this day I say it has the best and single most unique weapon variety in any FPS game, second to none. And what's even more important: More than a decade later, it's still a blast to play.

Fast-forward to today when I got the opportunity to get my hands on a demo of its sequel. Let me repeat: I GOT TO PLAY DUKE NUKEM FOREVER TODAY!!! TWICE!!! A year ago I was cracking jokes about it being vaporware like everyone else and now here I was at a game convention in ten-minute walking distance from where I live, playing the urban legend of the gaming community. To quote Randy: “Can you believe it?!”. To be quite honest, I am still processing it.

What I'm describing now you've read (or since FirstLook have actually seen) in many other places: This demo consists of two levels, a tribute to the final boss fight in Duke 3D and a vehicle / short on-foot section. I will try to address “issues” and questions I've seen online as I go along.

You start off in a locker room of a football team peeing and telling yourself to stop pissing time away and get back into action, so you promptly go do just that. Yes, you could fish a piece of poo out of a toilet bowl and fling it around the room leaving brown smudges everywhere but that'd be rude. No, you can't get into the hot tub, which will certainly lead to many canceled pre-orders (I was actually told something is going to be done about “hot tub gate”).

Toilets, showers, water fountains, white boards can be interacted with. There's a South Park reference not even one minute in. Crates can be punched. Random soldiers die. You pick up your Devastator dual-rocket launcher and go dance with the Cycloid king on the football field. Ammo is dropped by planes when you run out and it's very easy to miss, even with the smoke signals (It's just something you don't expect at all and it's a big field, so you might not even notice the smoke at first). Supposedly you can shoot down the blimp but after a few hits it just seems to float away and get out of range. After shooting down the Cycloid, you jump on him with a short QTE sequence to finish the level with the famous field goal ending of the third Duke 3D episode.... only to discover you were playing a video game in your crib, while being blown by hot twins in school-girl uniforms. How disappointing, it was just a lazy Duke Nukem Sunday all along. You've been played.

In the second level - that what I assume marks the ending of a longer highway driving section (you can see what's left of the highway being blown up above you) - you start off driving a Duke-themed four-wheeler through a canyon while flying spaceships are shooting at you, knocking loose boulders that come rolling towards you. You have a button to activate 4W drive and one for your turbo. Another to get out of the car. Pig creatures (they did not look like cops to me) stand around shooting at you just waiting to kiss your grill. At the end of the driving sequence you have to activate your turbo to jump over a chasm, just to run out of fuel when you land on the other side.

You then get out of the car to continue on foot. The first weapon you encounter next to your default golden Desert Eagle is the rail gun. Now I don't get the complaints about Duke sniping being “un-Duke” as he's not using a gay sniper rifle but a freaking RAIL GUN. You can aim to shoot off specific body parts of an enemy, like a leg, or go straight for the head which makes it balloon up and pop off. Now I had heard about this being in place before but it was really funny seeing it first hand and I have to admit it made me laugh out loud.

During my second playthrough Steve was present and he pointed me towards the hidden beer in the back of an abandoned truck and the pipe bombs close to it. Pressing the beer button (left on the digital pad) makes your vision go blurry and you see the message BEER MAKES YOU TOUGHER! which wore off quite quickly, though, so I'm not sure if it affects more than your vision. I was told you could drink and drive, at least, if you wanted to be a dick like that. Now I wanted to play with the pipebombs which you could throw with the right shoulder button, but I think it didn't say what you had to press to detonate them and I foolishly pressed the shoulder key again and accidentally threw my second bomb. When I found out the detonator was one of the face buttons, the enemies I was aiming at had moved past the bombs, so I didn't really get to blow them up and I ended up killing them with the rail gun. ;)

I had played with the shrink raygun in the first playthrough before (which was neat, you have to look down to stomp on shrunk enemies) so I avoided it and went for the shotgun, which for me was the highlight of the demo, bar none. Applying it directly to the enemy point blank I saw the return of something I hadn't seen in modern shooters in quite a while: LUDICROUS GIBS (with a hard 'g')!! I was extremely sad when I remembered reading dognose didn't get to experience it. ;)
When I was out of ammo I stumbled upon the Ripper chaingun and that's when things really started to feel familiar. This, my friends, was Duke in all His former glory and it felt gooood.

After getting my hands on two more pipe bombs, I was on one side of a bridge while a pig on it was charging me. Fumbling around trying to aim the pipe bombs I realized I was too late as he was too close and then the damn thing engaged in melee combat with me! It completely startled me as I was not expecting it at all; it's a short QTE sequence where you grab the pig by its tusks and wrestle around until you break his neck and throw him aside. It was really intense given you never used to fight them up close and personal like that! The other enemies on the other side of the bridge were too far for pipe bombs (so I didn't get to use them at all) and as one of them was behind a turret I had to kill him with what was left of my Ripper ammo to make it to the other side of the bridge alive.

Arriving there I found the RPG but then noticed that nothing around me was alive anymore (it really should be placed elsewhere for the demo), more enemies spawned only when you jumped behind the turret which triggers a drop-off of enemies in a structure that conveniently includes many red barrels just waiting for you to blow shit up! After many explosions and a smell of bacon in the air, you are at the end of the demo where you flip off an inbound alien ship.

A few notes on stuff I was concerned with before playing:
- Health (or EGO) is self-regenerating, at least it recharged fast enough before I could even try to replenish health by interacting with stuff (including destroying them). Also I'm not sure if I remember that correctly but in the second level the EGO bar was longer than in the first, so it seems you can upgrade your max EGO?

- I miss the Mighty Foot at one's convenience. I heard it would be in the game as a “finisher” but I didn't get to see it. Punching and weapon butting work too but the Foot was unique.

- Two weapons at a time issue: I wasn't happy at first but if the levels and enemy placement are designed around a fairly frequent stream of enemy mobs dropping a certain variety of weapons, it could work well. I always had a good primary weapon at hand.

- The graphics look good, I didn't have the impression that they look dated, AND they are still being polished as we speak.

- Interactivity: I had a whole section written up but I am tired and it sounded crazy anyway.

Thanks to Steve and Randy for hanging out and 2K for presenting the game in playable form here in Amsterdam!

I never had any issues with either GTA IV or Gears of War, never tried RE4. RE5 was great on PC though.

GTA IV pc was a horrible port, it was so glitchy it was practically unplayable not to mention the invasive secuROM shit.
and after all that the game sucked anyway.

Hopefully DNF won't be bad like that as it was made for the PC.

I can list a bunch of new and old games that are still alive and well, and were made for or work/play well on PC:

Half Life 2, including Ep1, Ep2, and DM
Left 4 Dead 1 and 2
Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter / The Second Encounter
Alien Swarm
Singularity
F.E.A.R 1 and 2
CounterStrike: Source
Day of Defeat: Source
Battlefield Bad Company 2
Borderlands (Despite the FOV issue, it feels much better on PC than on the consoles.)
Unreal Tournament 3 (There is a UI patch that gives it a PC-Suited interface like UT2004 had. Lots of great mods.)
Killing Floor
Team Fortress 2
Crysis
Metro 2033
Bioshock
Brink (Upcoming)
Fallout 3 (Some people have stability issues, but at least a lot has been patched officially, and through mods.)

And I could list hundreds more, but I don't really have the time at the moment.

Now, I do agree with GTAIV being a poor port, seeing as it was very poorly CPU optimized, needing a quad core to even hit 60fps no matter how good your video card is. As for Gears of War, I had no issues whatsoever, and felt suitable for PC when configured right.

And Resident Evil 4 was just shoddy all around, but, there's a mod that gives it proper mouse control, so that helps a little.

Mr. Green just basically summed it up right there.

Martin: I don't need to open my eyes, because they are already wide open. What do I see? A PC market that is still valid and quite alive. By applying your logic a little further, by the sheer number of titles, and the accessibility to those titles, PC has always taken a backseat to consoles, like the NES, SMS, SNES and the Genesis/MegaDrive. That is true, but unlike what you've said, today is absolutely no different, it isn't any more "dead" than it always has been. PC gaming is here to stay.

Piracy doesn't help, I know. But neither does DRM, and if people would fuck off with the DRM, the pirates would be less inclined to do their thing. Why? Because it isn't a challenge for them. Pirates look for a challenge, they want to crack something difficult for bragging rights. And, of course, just to get around the really, really bullshit DRM like that in SPORE. (The kind of DRM that screws over legit users.)

On the subject of GTA IV PC, I've never had an issue with it. I did however read it was ridiculously buggy and unoptimized when it was first released but has since received several patches and runs fine without any issue.

Seriously though, if any of you guys own GTA IV for PC and threw it in the corner after release when you realised it was a horrible port I advise you to get it back out, install it and update it to the latest patch as even though it's still not a top class port in terms of performance it is about 1000x better then it was at release and I haven't noticed any bugs with it.

Now, back to Duke Nukem Forever. There is no way that Duke Nukem Forever is going to end up like games such as RE4 and Saints Row 2 on PC when it's released because if that happened it'd be a massive slap in the face for all companies involved in the games development as well as taking into account it was (is) being developed for PC for the past 12 years.

Now shall we return to what this topic is actually about which is, if I'm not mistaken, Duke Nukem Forever at Firstlook.

Reformatting should always be a last resort. Reformatting because of the slightest problem is foolish. OH! My text caret is too big! My Volume Icon is Missing! REFORMAT! (There are people I know personally who are actually like that.)

There are online instructions on how to remove secuROM. Though, most games that use secuROM don't have the rootkit method anymore, they only run when the game runs. The rootkit type of secuROM was part of the older Bioshock copies, and maybe a few other games.

And the Steam version of GTA IV has no DRM other than Steam itself.

Kindly shut up.

Make me! :3

Anyway, I was hoping that this game would run on my current box because it can handle UE2.5, but these screens have showed me that I will definitely have to upgrade. ;)

This will be SOOOOOOO worth it though! :3 Why is everybody making such a big deal about the linearity? Duke Nukem 3D was extremely linear, your mission was to get to the end of the level and press the self destruct button. You didn't have a sandbox like GTA. Yeah you could fuck around with the interactive stuff but when it all came down to it, you HAD to press the button if you wanted to do anything else.

This game will be no different. So again, where's the beef?

Oh and I'm already calling it. GOTYATYTC. Game Of The Year And The Years To Come. The only thing that can beat it is Duke Nukem Forever 2: Resurrection.
