Stereoscopic 3D (for 3D TVs and VR)

#1

I really hope BuildGDX gets support for it.
Even 2.5D games would shine really well in stereoscopic 3D.
This would be an upgrade over the anaglyph (red-blue) 3D in Duke Nukem 3D's DOS version.

I have brought this up a few times over the years and there is little to no interest in the community. Back in the early 2000's I played games in 3D glasses. Then Nvidia dropped support for them and they got packed away in a box. Then a couple of years ago I bought new glasses and started enjoying 3D gaming again. Then Nvidia did it again. Their latest drivers from this year removed 3D support. So I'm stuck with older drivers and probably a declining lack of enthusiasm for 3D support from games. Same thing at the Cinema. Lack of ticket sales has led to a decline of movies released in 3D format.

Most blockbusters like Marvel movies and American animated films still get 3D versions in cinemas and Blu-ray.
I recently really enjoyed watching The Rise of Skywalker in IMAX 3D.
The snow effects in the Frozen films were also amazing, so many particles flying on the screen.
3D is here to stay, albeit as a cult niche.

The Marcus Theatre chain, or at least in their Milwaukee area theatres have cut back on showing 3d versions of movies. None at all now at the one I go to the most and fewer at the ones that still do show them. The room was almost empty every time I go to a 3D showing. Sometimes up to 10-15 people. Granted this was on weekend day and not a Friday or Saturday night when most people go to see a movie. Now with the huge hit the industry has taken with the virus crap they may have to trim back even more of their lesser money making 3D movies.

I think he's talking about pre-COVID, especially when he brings up "the virus crap" at the end of the post

Correct. I'm referring to the 1-2 years before Covid hit. The industry may still be making 3D versions but they are not all being offered at the major theatre chain . Not only do I like them for the 3D effect, but the slightly higher ticket price keeps the little kids and big crowds from spoiling the moviegoing experience. With only a handful of people inside I can chew my big bucket of popcorn as loudly as I want.
