What I'm up to these days and why I left DN3D behind

Hello everyone! Long time no see. Just wanted to tell you about what happened in my life after I left the DN3D community a few years ago.

If I remember correctly, my last official project was a Octo Desperado map, and the last EDuke32-based indie game was a small Undertale fangame. There also was a gameplay mod and an updated version of A.Dream 2, but it's nothing special really. Sadly, I don't think I will ever touch mapster32 again. The reason is simple - a complete loss of inspiration and motivation. It's like every time I open a map editor, I feel a slight headache and have to really force myself to do something. I first started feeling that around the time of Electric Highways development, and maybe that's the reason why the game turned out to be so bland and short. For the period of 2016-2019 I I couldn’t admit to myself that the creation of maps/games is no longer interesting to me and it's time to move on, I thought I just got lazy. But now I think I finally put up with it. I've got new interests, and sadly, mapping is no longer one of them. Sometimes I play new usermaps, but I noticed that new releases happen extremely rarely these days, which is very sad
I also moved on to a Doom fandom for a while, and played a lot of WADs, and enjoyed most of them. Which is weird, because at the time of my DN3D phase, I couldn't stand fanmade Doom WADs, I thought the gameplay in them was too repetitive and boring.

So, about the time I told you about my new interests! One of them is record collecting. As of right now I have a collection of 1540 records, and I'm quite happy with it!

I also now have an online store, located in Russia, and it's my main source of income. Sometimes I visit record fairs as a seller. This is my dream job basically. If you're interested in soviet rock/pop/electronic records, or weird/exotic LPs of popular music, feel free to message me!

The other interest is, well, cosplay and fetish photography. I also attend various cosplay festivals. As of right now I don't get any money from it and and do it just for fun, but might open a patreon later. The pictures below are the most "normal" I've done so far.

Also, I now have a girlfriend for the first time in my life, thanks to the photography hobby, so there's that. Will probably move to a house with her in a year or two.
On the sad note, the coronavirus slowly begins to take hold of Russia, and because of that, I won't be able to meet up with my girlfriend for some time. Thankfully, me and her are OK. The record selling business slowed down to a crawl though.

So, here you go. I hope it was interesting for you. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask ;)

I really loved the dream map for Duke 3D

also Yume Nikki 3D was awesome.

I am glad that you are doing fine now.

By what specific programing language do I need to know to do stuff like yume nikki3d or your Sonic videogames?

Thanks

Thanks, glad you liked them!

There's no specific language used, just stock EDuke 32 con commands.

Just link directly to your images. I don't need to create an account to watch two dudes sucking and getting fucked.

Great news, dear friend Eddy! Glad to hear that your vinyl record business is going well, and your hobby is helping you meet people you like and can build relationships with. I also like your female cosplay photos a lot. Your post inspires me to keep pursuing my life goals as well. As you might notice, I've been not very active in Duke community last years too.

I don't remember age restricting my pics. There's no porn on them. Must be a imgur thing. I'll look into it!

Edit: must be some sort of automatic system. Sadly, I have no control over it, there's no mature content settings on my account.

Hi Eddy,
good to hear you're doing fine.
Would you mind if I re-distribute repackaged versions of Moonbase Accident and Infestation in Time, adapted to the current HRP and autoload use?
(I made them some time ago and they might need another review, though.)

Sad to see you go Eddy, you've always been one of my favourite mapper for Duke3D mostly thanks to your unique and experimental mapping style. Electric Highways and The Wall are seriously two of the most memorable stuff I've played. And let's not forget Yume Nikki 3D.

Though I guess I'm partly in the same boat as I've pretty much moved past mapping for vanilla Duke3D (last map I did was Baptized In Lunar Dust back in 2015) and is spending my time mapping for AMC TC instead (currently working on my 9th map for it).

Time's changing I guess.

Sad news but I'm happy to hear that you're doing well, at least. Your work was always counted among my favorites (even if I pussed out on half of them).

Its been 3 years since the last time I asked and 7 years since the first time.
Before you leave us for good could you send your beta copy of "Everything Dies" to somebody and/or contact the author one last time? Even after all these years it pains me to think it might be lost forever. :)

and thanks for the A dream maps, the mask, slenderman. cool stuff

Hi Eddy, just saw this. Good to hear you're doing well! You've contributed a large number of unique, varied and high quality content over the years, which we are all grateful for.

I'm in a similar boat to Loke who is in a similar boat to you, in that I haven't done any vanilla Duke mapping for around 6 years, but am fairly active in the AMC TC. I have plans for an Episode 5 map that's somewhat inspired by your Dream trilogy, which is the sort of content the community could use more of IMO. I also replayed your Electric Highways mod about a year ago when I was in the mood for something different.

I also get that slight headache you mentioned when having some maps open in mapster, which I think might be a stress trigger for whatever reason. However sometimes it's just a matter of finding the right map or idea. It sounds like you've well and truly moved on though, so good luck for future endeavors :)

I just DL'ed it. Thanks Eddy. Now you can walk into the sunset... :)

Looks like the project folder is messed up. It will take some tweaking to get it running. I guess that will give me something to work on today.

Missed this thread somehow. :)

It's sad to see Eddy go away, for me especially - since we met a really long time a ago. I still remember how we "founded" the russian part of our community almost 12 years ago (geez!), i.e. get everybody together in one place. Still remember the one time we met IRL and Eddy showed me the "Everything Dies" beta that became public only now. And how he always tested my maps and mods and helped with everything. I remember RCBPs and Bad Night. All the fun and all the drama.

Eddy certainly made the impressive arraw of maps and mods over the years, but my favorite's still the A.Dream maps. Not a fan of anime stuff really (Yummi Nikki), but I guess it's only for the fans of it.
I kinda regret that we didn't made more maps together but hey, I understand. Everything comes and goes and hobby's not the exception. But the old interests always have a chance of comeback, isn't it? :P
In a way I'm honored that we had such a long association but it's still sad that the person who was such a good friend of yours once, become just a chapter in life by now. And then you think about it and realise that all of it was such a long time ago. I can't believe that it's already 4 years since you Eddy tested my Winterfall map and released the latest works of yours!
Anyway, I'm glad that one of your other hobbies (vinyl) gives you a profit and I wish you all the best with it and everything else! Good luck, Eddy! :P

Speaking of Eddy's vinyl store. I've been having a tough time finding someone to buy my collection. A few people wanted to cherry pick a handful of them but I said I was interested in selling the whole collection. And thats the problem. Its almost 700 records. My own and from my 3 brothers who left their collections here when they moved away. Even at just 50 cents each, no takers. 2 people said they wanted the whole thing but never followed thru. Typical for local but online buyers.

Going thru the Everything Dies project folder. OMG what a tangled mess it is. 8000 files and almost 900MB in the folder. I have messed with the assets, defs and maps for at least 5-6 hours over the last few days attempting to clean and organize it. At the rate I'm going it would take at least 20-30 more hours of that very tedious and frustrating part of modding. And thats just the cleanup. After all of that, the gameplay needs attention and other assets upgraded or added. Also, its running on a 2008 version of eduke. Plus bits and pieces of Dukeplus have been sandwiched in there. 100s of lines of error codes for the assets. Being an outsider I have no idea how many of those error assets are actually being used in the maps or not. I don't want to spend hours looking up proper model frame names and correcting defs for stuff that won't be used. Another issue is many of the models have no identifying tile in Mapster tile selector to show they are a model. They show as a texture. Another hurdle is the 80 maps in there. From small feature test maps to multiple versions of the same handful of larger maps. I can't always easily determine which maps were furthest along or intended to be used for the final cut.

I'm used to my own jumbled projects. But I don't think I could purposely make one as bad as this. I can see why the original author never got back to it. :) Especially if he was working alone.
