(NEW RELEASE) WGFANG!  "New William Gee level."

#1

Here is my new Vanilla map, around 250 enemies. Takes me 25 mins to pass, might take you 30-40 mins.
REQUIRES A NEW EDUKE32 + POLYMOST. Due to lots of TROR.
It does still work in classic with but with graphical glitches.
I have also tested it in AA and it worked really well.

Oops, clicked on the (-) by mistake, my bad, i wish i could undo that.

Will play it soon.

EDIT: just finished it, took me 41 minutes (some of that was for secret hunting, i found all 10 secrets).
Pretty good map! Makes you wish more people used TROR.

Congrats on the release! As one of the beta testers I can say it's well worth your time! Well it's a WG map so of course it is. :P
Love the evil vibe, helped by the music. Great use of verticality, the recon pig cars and

.

I had to play in classic mode and can confirm it's 100% playable. You'll get a couple of visual glitches but nothing that hinders the gameplay.

Congrats on another release, Will, you're a real machine! :D

The map is great, very original theme of some fantasy/horror castle with epic TROR effects, both complimenting eachother very nicely. Gameplay is dynamic and challenging at place, but the map is in general very open, so most fights can be approached from different angles and with different strategies. Also it's really cool that basically everything can be explored.

Thanks everyone!

I started this map after watching all of the Harry Potter movies in a row. It was inspired by HOGWARTS, but of cause it changed into a completely different. :D Though there are still some HP easter eggs in there.

I also wanted to see how bigger area I could make in TROR without it breaking. I think we could make something bigger than this again.

Played it, took me about 40 minutes. Loved it!
It keeps surprising me you keep having inspiration and make such a huge castle!

The castle reminded me more of your recent WGR Demon MOD (the huge "main tower") but also of Unreal. I absolutely LOVE the music, it's really creepy but at same time moody. Gotta love those bell sounds too! Somehow, those belles even reminded me of Unreal (don't know the map which got one).
Since it's also one of your all-time-favourite game I guess it's not that strange :P

Found 4 secrets.
The gameplay was great: had to be careful to stay on pad & survive but it all was good! The only part I had to save many times was the climax: I even had to use steroids to go back in the map & try to find some health (I found the full medkit which I somehow missed) since I had 5% health, got 1 strong & 1 less strong miniboss left to kill with just 10 shotgun ammo & 50 chaingun and maybe a few pipebombs. And yes, I did found
Spoiler

Maybe some very minor stuff which could have been polished even more...but since it's minor (and probably just your style - I have them as well in my maps I guess) I can say this map is totally worth your time & it even made me say WOW at one part.

I wish I had known how to use TROR when building DT, This map is something I didn't even dream about then,I would even completely rebuild the Tutorial level like this.

Review @ MSDN https://msdn.duke4.net/hotwgfang.php
I think this is the first time I got map shot of the moment, at least in my poor memory.

Finally played this map after a long time spent marveling at the screenshots, took 34 minutes to traverse. Really amazing sceneries, I also really liked the progression style that felt like a tour of every wing of the castle in succession all the while unlocking new floors one by one and only occasionally getting a good sight out on the starting area again to check on your position and progress. Enemy placement worked well too, some interesting combos (tank + drone is neat) and perfect use of them to guide the player around the level, I found myself on a loop for a second maybe a couple of times only to then instantly find my way the next, the ride was completely smooth. Scale reminded me of Anslem just updated to modern standards, TROR and with original style in the texturing and visuals. I actually really liked how you used visibility again (from his review it reads like Mikko didn't but I think one loses on the surprise factor and also some depth when everything is constantly full bright in plain sight).

One thing I wasn't so sure about was the last few encounters in the map, the last handful of indoor tanks felt a bit forced in there thematically speaking (loved discovering the tanks' first introduction at plaza level though, in general the enemies were presented very well and sometimes with some interesting choices, e.g.. the pitch black Battlelords), and the last battle cracked me up in disbelief when the gate opened but works as an incentive to go explore the 'forbidden' heights of the map and find the secret places. I wasn't so sure I was finishing the map properly after finding the first jetpack and then using it after finding myself in what seemed like a dead-end (or I think it was after I raised the structure in the room that takes you to the cliff with the Atomic Health), but that the map unveils one extra layer on top just like that really highlights the item as its ultimate reward, once you finally get it feels like complete domination of a landscape which used to overwhelm you at the start. Oh and yeah, something as rudimentary as climbing up as early as the first cliff using the narrow ledges was some simple raw fun I appreciated, really felt like I was just about to creep up a surprise structure with the mission to make it my own.

I played on CGS and in classic since my PC doesn't run anything else so did get a few glitches but they never got in the way and it actually took me a good while to notice them also thanks to the high sky and low visibility.

Some screenshots of moments I liked: https://imgur.com/a/CRtFfPT

Thanks for playing it and the review.
Nice to see people still playing it.
I remember trying to work out the best way to make the flying pig cops work in TROR layers, or trying to use the jetpack in a interesting way.

This level was very experimental, It had some errors very early on because I stuffed the TROR up at the beginning, but the level was looking so good I tried my best to hide them because I couldn't remove them without breaking the whole map. I think the released version still had them but you only know when mapster tells you so.

This is now the secret level in WGRealms in the wgmega pack. It is also a BIB BOSS map in Demon Throne.

EDIT: Thanks for the screenshots btw they are fun to look at.
