Flickering Line on Weapon in Polymer

As shown in this video, in r9382, when using Polymer, a line will appear next to your weapon when moving. This doesn't occur on r9321, nor when using Polymost or Classic.

This is occurring with a RTX 3090 with driver version 466.63 and a i9-10900k.

Also just realized I posted this in the wrong section, oops

I hope you didn't pay scalper prices for that hardware just to play a 25 year old game that runs on a potato.

I don't think that the texture/sprite flickering problem has ever been fully resolved, especially when it comes to transparency. Every version of EDuke32 that I've tried still has this problem at some point in at least some addon.

Polymer hasn't been supported in any meaningful way for many years now, so don't hold your breath expecting a fix. This revision includes some new weapon movement interpolation code (which makes weapon sway smoother), so I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

@Avenger not sure why you have to be so aggressive, he clearly said it was a *new* issue

Noticed this for quite a while, can't say exactly when but this "line" was already there in the year 2020's revisions, never reported cuz it is in Polymer only.

Aggressive?

It may be new to him. All I was saying is that historically this has always been an issue in some shape or form.

This issue still occurs on r9392.

Dan's hunch was correct, it is the commit that introduced rotatesprite interpolation that caused this (f6ee47e2).

But like he also said, a fix is unlikely.

Another thing that i noticed in the latest 2 revisions is that maybe there's something wrong in the weapon switching behaviour, idk exactly how to tell this, but i feel like that (by scrolling) it does not always switch to the weapon i want to, i mean like if it skip one weapon, e.g: I scroll from Pistol to Chaingun, then RPG come out, i scroll from RPG to Shotgun, then Pistol come out, idk if this make sense lol.
This randomly happens sometimes, not always.

This does not seem to happen in Alien Armageddon that uses the same latest revisions though.

My mistake. I was using the HRP with models turned off to make the weapons a sprite.

OK. tested without hrp with polymer. Still no line. If it makes a difference, I am using old 2018 nvidia drivers because newer ones disable support for my LCD 3D glasses.

On closer inspection, the line you see appears to be the bottom line of pixels of the sprite being rendered at the top. Compare it for instance with the chaingun and the shotgun.

Oh yeah, I remember that same thing happening years ago in a project with a bunch of grass sprites. It was annoying. I don't remember seeing the problem since then.

Tried with the rest of the weapons, if somebody is interested: Attached File  Shotgun to FreezeTh.7z (2.8MB)
Number of downloads: 160

But due nothing is likely to be fixed because is Polymer, i would focus more on the "new" weapon switching behaviour.

I decided to do more testing. If I create a new folder and put only eduke32.exe and Duke3D.GRP and run in Polymer I get the line.

I guess my previous testing was flawed because I was in my Duke3D with HRP folder. I turned off models and true color textures from the menu and from the looks of the game I assumed it was in vanilla mode because the screen looks just like BattleLord's. But evidently there is still something different because I don't get the lines on the weapons this way. So maybe playing like that is a compromise?
