is this normal?  "32bit and 64bit eduke memory usage"

#1

is this normal? 32 bit eduke uses around 40 - 50 mb of ram, but with 64 bit it uses around 420 - 480 mb, this is using the base game only (no mods of any kind) with the polymost renderer and the exact same graphical settings.

just wanted to know if these numbers are normal or there may be something off on my end, i'm using windows 8.1 64 bits

EDIT: the difference is nowhere near as drastic in classic

classic:

32 bit 40 - 50 mb
64 bit 80 - 90 mb

polymost:

32 bit 40- 50 mb
64 bit 420 - 480 mb

Mapster uses lots of memory sometime .

Eduke32 can use lots of memory too

Polymost can use a lot.

Polymer sometime can get laggy if you display lots of stuff and can drain your ram

I use a
NVIDIA
EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GAMING, 04G-P4-6251-KR, 4GB GDDR5, ACX 2.0 (Single Fan)
1290MHz Base Clock
1392MHz Boost Clock
65GT/s Texture Fill Rate
4096MB GDDR5 Memory
7008MHz Memory Clock
112.16GB/s Memory Bandwidth

So maybe it may make stuff drain less ram

My ram is DDR4

On my older comp (DDR3) and no vid card but a processor based vid card (not high ends)
it used to suck lots of ram.

Once I think my peak on Mapster when was working on my mod reached nearly 6GB (and was a polymost mod)

both were 64 bits I believe

PS
In classic mode, it barely uses any on my end

so that memory usage is normal, i just was curious. Thanks

yes is normal.

if you example make sick/ complex HRP levels, your build / mapster may drain your RAM.

I think if you have good ram DDR4, high end vid card it will reduce.

Duke is still memory blind tho, can massively eat your RAM, but less worst if your ram is good.
Comp is strong etc.

Same as when I used to have DDR3 ram.
when I upload a video 50% - 70% finished.
it crashes my browser cus too much ram get sucked in pending mode when it calculate to resume the unfinished youtube vid to upload.

But
Since I use DDR4,
I can stop vid at 99% and resume and it wont cause my Crome to eat 2GB ram and crash.
Even if the vid is 90 GB in size.

Zaxtor, I don't think you actually answered his question. He only wants to know if its normal for Eduke32 64 bit to use much more ram than Eduke32 32 bit.
At least thats how I understood his question.

yes, that's what i mean, i wan't to know if it's normal. i created two installs of eduke, one 32bit and another 64bit (same build) , exact same settings.

in polymost right after starting l.a meltdown the memory usage is:

[attachment=13472:32.png]

i don't have any graphical mod installed

EDIT: just click the image, i don't know how to make it larger

I used 64 bit on both machines.

on old comp. (Win 7)
DDR3 (16 GB ram)
It sucked my ram like an SOB
Had a low-end processor based vid card

on newer machine (same stuff) suck less ram (win 10)
(8 GB ram)
DDR4
have a vid card

and my Eduke32 64bit uses less ram.
Even if I push the game to its limits
uses crazy Polymer.

Ram wont bleed away
