Weird temp issue

#1

Last week i did a routine cleaning of my pc, nothing out of ordinary, but after that my processor temps go too high while gaming, sometimes reaching 90ºc, before that i never saw it go over 75ºc. But, the thing is, when i close the game temp drops down to the 50-60 range almost instantly, reaching idle temps no long after.
I am using the integrated graphics and stock Intel cooling fan.

I have no clue what's happening, i asked someone who knows about this stuff and we think it's not the thermal paste, based on how fast temps drop. Cooling fan is working fine.

Anyone has any idea of what could be?

Did you verify all of your other cooling fans are working as well? What CPU do you have? What is the TJMAX/TJUNCTION value specified for the CPU (this will be listed on the Intel page for the CPU in question)? 90c isn't unheard of for some Intel chips on stock cooling.

Background stuff maybe, something like steamwebhelper process. Try minimizing your game and load taskmanager to see what's using all that cpu.

For me it was googles "softwarereporter" driving up cpu. It'll still automatically update itself sometimes and turn on again. I hate that shit.

All fans are working, my processor is Intel i3 4130.

can't find TJMAX/TJUNCTION in
https://ark.intel.co...e-3-40-ghz.html

but according to HWINFO TJMAX is 100ºc.

The problem is that before i cleaned it it never reached these temps. Never went over 75ºc (i check my pc temp regularly due to my previous pc having temp problems)

Even Ion Fury pushes my pc to 85ºc, and i am fairly certain that before cleaning it that never happened. and that is with 60 fps limit and vsync enabled.

Nothing big running in the background, but still happens. Even with Ion Fury gog version (without Galaxy) running pc temp gets too high. CPU usage is 53%.

It doesn't matter how shitty your CPU is your temperature should never stay at 75 degrees or higher. I'm going to guess your CPU heatsink and fan is not mounted properly and your thermal paste is probably put on too thick. Your processor temperature on average should be between 34C - 54C. Tell me you didn't use a vaccum cleaner to clean your computer out.

As of last week my workstation developed a strange overheating issue. I was streaming (so using 100% CPU) and my overheat alarm went off, I found this odd as I had cleaned the system out not long before whilst dealing with a GPU issue and loaded it hard since. Even if a fan died, there should be enough redundancy to keep the temp safe and my alarm threshold is low (~50°C) so I ignored it for a while but it didn't go away, I had to end the stream.

The next day I went into the system to investigate, nothing seems to be wrong, my paste is good but despite me disabling fan speed control, it slows when the OS starts so I cut off the PWM wire and forced it to run at full speed like it's supposed to. I loaded the hell out of the CPU again and it climbed to over 75°C in a few minutes, then crawled up slowly into the 80s from there. I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong with it and the only thing I can think is the suggestion a guy on my Discord made that the IHS may have broken its bond with the die, especially as one core runs way colder than the others.

The CPU does not throttle and the room temperature is very low as I have no heat in the house. Luckily the system was already on the list to be scrapped in a few months as the hard drive warranties are about to run out, so I turned off the alarm and decided that what will be will be.

For those wondering, this is a Xeon E3-1271 V3, curiously also a Haswell CPU like yours.

Only reaches these temps when gaming or doing something heavy, idle temps haven't changed. They're between 37ºc and 41ºc (it's almost summer over here, last few days have been really hot)
I have to open it up again to check it but it will have to wait until next week, i'm gonna be too busy this one.

Did you try using cum as thermal paste?

Been burning toothpaste for months here, still colder than when I had proper paste on it. Reminds me I should probably take care of that.

UPDATE: I fixed it, don't know how. Took the thing apart, checked everything and found nothing, and after putting everything back together it was fixed.
