I refuse to play on easy mode, but I will do as you suggest and just start on episode 3 after watching the epilogues. I do wonder if skipping episodes 1 and 2 will cripple me in some way by missing out on important upgrades, though.

You would probably do fine on 'Normal', but the enemies get pretty aggressive.

I started a fresh playthrough of EP3 on Expert - it's a bit of a pain, I wouldn't recommend it :)

Just finished Planet X64-2. My first thoughts:

Some serious bugs I noticed (I am usually not much of a bug reporter but these ones seem pretty serious):

I might need to lock the player in place for the starting bit unfortuantely, since I definitely made all the walls in the dropship blocking :)

Awesome! I've been waiting for this.

Though like with AA, I think I'll wait a bit longer for the initial patches to roll out.

All right, I wandered around the hub world again, and played through Megabase, I'm already seeing some new bits (I love the new dropships). My plan is to play through eps 1 and 2 on normal difficulty again, with the default weapons, then do 3, since I need to relearn how to play AMC after having just gone through Alien Armageddon (more different than one would think). Also I see the... blank spot, in the biographies section, but I've made my peace with that.

Dumb question, is there a recommended resolution for AMC? I've always played in 1920x1080, and I just accepted the choppiness as I don't make it a habit to complain about a free mod. I do notice that the round objects in the menus look squished, which is why I ask if I should go for a 4:3 resolution or go lower than 1080p.

James told me he designs things with widescreen in mind. So any widescreen resolution should do.

You’ll want to reduce the overall resolution if you’re having frame rate issues though.

It's still playable but I will do that if it gets really bad. I will say that before, one of the biggest framerate killers for me was the areas with tons of broken glass on the floor, but after playing through Dis Base, there was a room there with lots of glass on the floor and it ran fine, so if anything the mod runs better for me now.

Also, the reflections on the briefing room table, nice touch.

Also also, is beating the secret level accessed from Dis Base supposed to take me back to AMC base and skip over the second Ganymede mission (don't want to spoil it)? This includes playing the cutscene you'd normally get after the second Ganymede mission, so I went from Dis Base --> secret level --> cutscene talking about beating the mission that got skipped and James giving the other AMC members their assignments. (I mean I can just go back to the menu and go there manually so it's not a big deal to me).

And finally, I notice that when the game autosaves, if I push F6 to save after that, it overwrites the previous manual save I made, and not the autosave like it used to. This is a plus for me.

That's a strange bug with Abyss, I did run through myself on a fresh game and got nothing like that but I'll take a closer look - thanks for the report :)

Uninstall Duke Megaton edition, since it looks like it's picking up the files from that.

I had the same issue. Easily resolved, but, this is going to happen to other players. I have put some details about it under the spoiler tag.

Anyway, when I actually started playing, I realized that I had hardly touched episode 2, so I'm going to be doing that before episode 3. So far, I'm loving it and I'm especially blown away with all of your GUI work, not the least of which is all the work you did overhauling the game menus. I do have a few complaints about interfaces and controls not working the way I would want them to, but I will save all that for another time.

Thanks for the detailed report Dan - it's good to hear both solutions work, in case somebody doesn't want to uninstall Megaton edition.

Yes I put a lot of work into the GUIs but of course, suggestions for improvements are welcome since there's still stuff I want to do to improve it.

A friend of mine wants to play this on Mac. What does he need for that? I'm assuming just a Mac version of the EDuke32 build? Is there a place that can be downloaded?

Rhoenie once helped me set it up for Mac. Not sure if it still works. I recall it did require the game files to be in a fairly specific directory, so it’s not as plug-and-play as the windows setup.

It’s basically midnight here though, so I’ll try to dig up tomorrow.

My feedback about Episode 1 is almost complete, though it will require some revisiting.
By the way ... Sang is still the master at fixing stuff with ropes >> Attached Image: duke0001.png
I'm starting to wonder if Sang might not be a reincarnation of Mac Guyver >_>

Rather than uninstall megaton, my solution was to put a normal DUKE3D.GRP in the AMC folder.

explains why I never encountered the problem. I have megaton & WT installed, but I've been dropping my atomic grp file into the base directory since day one.

Speaking of problems I have a "big" one.
When I end Dis Base with the secret exit I am sent at the title screen O_o I tested it 3 times in a row and I was always sent to the title screen.
When I finish Repent Base I am sent to City Under Siege o_O Tested twice and it did it both times. In V2 it NEVER did that, it actually tended to happen if I played too many EDF missions or user maps and yet it was rare.

Also we have a need for Highwire's Rocket Launcher, it needs a widescreen friendly first person sprite because the rockets come from asside the gun (like from Highwire's eye)

Am I already on a bug reporting spree ?

I've never had this happen to me, but I think I've figured out what's causing it so I've fixed it.

Highwire's RL will be replaced with an RPG7 at some point, it's just not a priority at the minute since I want to focus on characters who have active people behind them.

where's my character then?
I should be the guy that everyone kicks before they leave to go on mission

You want to be the training dummy? I was thinking you would be the repair guy who comes in to fix a bridge or something so the player can keep going.

As soon as I add in vehicle modding and upgrades, Forge will be the mechanic :)

I've run into a pretty serious issue while playing the first LA mission using Micky on the build I downloaded yesterday. I am using the included eduke32, 64 bit. Right after the battle at the bar, where you meet up with some EDF guys and a battlelord etc. attack, my PDA stopped working. No matter what I do, the keys assigned to it will not pull it up. I've tried re-assigning the keys, and I've tried assigning it to the mouse button, but it just won't come up any more (I need PDA viagra or something...) I theorized that the player had a var leftover from some state that is incompatible with using the PDA. For example, maybe something failed to get unset after using one of the stationary guns. So I went back and used a stationary gun, hoping that would reset it. But no luck. I can supply my saved game file if that helps. Maybe you could use addlogvar in the console and figure out what is locking the PDA to off.

That would be appreciated, thanks - try setting MISSIONUP and MISSIONPOS both to 0 in the console and see if that fixes the problem whilst I take a more thorough look.

So if this happens to anyone else, just open the console and type "setvar MISSIONUP 2" and that will clear it. I'm sure Jblade will have a proper fix later.

Today IRL I literally caught my neighbor's escaped chickens and fixed the wall of their coop... so, maybe?

When I use the scanner, often times the status (eg. "DIED SEVERAL DAYS AGO" or something) is cut off by the corpse itself, see attachment. I don't remember it being like this before, correct me if I'm wrong.

Also I'm replaying the episodes in order, I just finished my favorite Ep 1 map, Millhaven. I'm having a blast again.

I have a few things to report.
1_ With Merlijn you can pick up a second Guan Dao which locks you out of using the 360 sweep > Attached Image: duke0002.pngI tried ways to fix it but no can do.
2_ This is a bit weird, it ain't a shadow > Attached Image: duke0000.png
3_ In the Shadow Realm with Merlijn (probably does it with other characters), after I blocked a Guardian's attack I was able to sprint FOREVER. Blocking attacks and rolling still depletes the stamina but sprinting normally doesn't. Can't say I mind because it's super usefull being able to sprint endlessly in the Shadow Realm but still.

Lastly what's wrong with the Oil Rig now ? The section under the platform lags soooo freaking hard that it's utterly unplayable ! Worse than t the Base. I spent almost 20 minutes on that section, saving and reloading over and over, because of it >_< I doubt I'll play this level ever again just because of that !
And it makes me even more afraid of Ep3's levels on performance =(
