Hosting for Duke sites (especially mods and TCs)  "Just like Dukeworld back in the day!"

Interested in some hosting for my "Duke Music 3D" project. I mostly need it for hosting the actual files, but I'de lay out a site as well if you accept me.

http://forums.duke4....?showtopic=1012
thats where I'm at so far.

my current website is based off of wordpress: www.d3drocks.co.cc
its for VSTs and audio stuff though.
ide probably use wordpress again, but look for a better skinned one, and do some other stuff to make it look not so basic.

With d3drocks' renditions and if I get back to that rock/metal-ized music pack for Duke3D that I started a long time ago, those together with the already made SC-55 music pack would definitely be cause to start up a site for Duke3D music packs. Then people could choose how they like their Duke to sound. I'd definitely be motivated to start that metal pack up again if such was the case.

It would also be and interesting place to have soundtrack replacements with all original music packs. Would be interesting to see how Duke3D would play with an all ambient soundtrack for instance. Or a neo-classical orchestral arrangement of some kind.

Not to mention all the Grabbag remixes people have made over the years would have a fitting home as well.

Site looks okay I guess... might look better if you weren't using some graphic ripped from last.fm. :)

I was going to make a website design myself. But making websites is tiring. I went through a lot to get my personal website looking as good as it does and then my webhost disappeared along with my website and I haven't heard from the guy since. It's ok, though, because the guy was just donating it to me for free. Sucks to lose, though. Anyway, kinda lost the will to make another one lol.

Btw, I'm setting up a new feature for the hosted sites: http based file management. This will allow you to manage the files on your hosted sites from within a web browser, using the same login credentials as you would use for ftp.

No, not really. I am sure cPanel has some sort of file manager in it but that is where the similarity ends.

Anyone with a hosted site should be able to log in to the file manager through the "extplorer" virtual directory on all of the hosted sites now. Let me know how it works, guys.

I got a mail from techsupport from IGNHosting which mentions they'll be closing their free hosting services (End of August) And if this is deffinitely set in stone, I best off be prepared and move before that time (I suppose) otherwise my site is practically dead until I can afford my own.

I'm wondering if I could take up the offer of hosting and migrate my site over here? I do reviews, mostly for Duke3D maps/mods, but I also spread it across various other games non-Duke related, so I'll just leave it up to you to decide. http://qshockwave.pl...ke.gamespy.com/

Thanks a lot man, I appreciate it!

I always found the original url to be far too long. A nice and short taw.duke4.net would be really neat.

Great to see Quakis jump on bord, I wondered if you would.

BTW are links to all these sites gonna be added to the main page somehow?

Could you host my site?

Zips take a bit over 700 megs but I wouldn't have to upload any of them because Fileplanet already has the files and, apparently, the files are going to stay there despite the closure of the hosting service.

msdn.duke4.net would be fine.

No problem.

Btw, anyone who is moving their site off of somewhere like PlanetDuke should consider using a .htaccess based HTTP 301 redirect. I don't really give a shit if your old domains redirect to duke4, but such a redirect will allow you to keep any search engine ranking you might have built up over the years.

Maps can be considered a sorta of "Total conversion" ? (yea not much maybe, but old site contains very good old and rare maps)
