We don't really have too many, admins here are never all online at the same time.

What about splitting the post thread:

The Wicked Post Thread

And

The Virtuous Post Thread

I'm really here (General Messages) all the time, I just don't too much reason to use any sort of moderation unless there are spambots. Most can comprehend what is acceptable on a message board.

I posted this in the wrong thread >_< so I'm moving it here.

I think we should also have a random news bulletin. Like close to the very top of the forum main page. It can suggest tips and announce important things pertaining to the site and recent news. The important thing would be for the message to change every time you change pages/threads or every like 10 minutes. Making it clickable so that it takes you to the relevant part of the forum would also be neat.

Thoughts?

You mean like site news, or popular/new worthwhile stuff by members on the forums here..?

Site news, Recent site updates, Duke historical facts, 3dr historical facts, Key mod releases and updates, Key DNF "real" info. The non-speculative kind. Just short little things. Announcements and the such as well as trivia and news.

Things like "Read the forum FAQ/ guidelines." (click on it to redirect"
"3dr was founded __ years ago on this day"
"Latest 3dr update on their lawsuit"
"Don't like your theme? Change it here" - takes you to a page with screenshots of both themes and a place were you can change it. User CP or soemthing
"Want to help the community out, please donate."
"Searching for some Duke3d and DNMP mods/TC's? check here"
"New Eduke32 important update"
"Duke4.net anniversary"
etc

So, a randomly changing section (or banner, or whatever) that changes after each page load, or looping over time ..?
Or do you literally want a forum section that has these things added into it ..? (if the latter, then i guess the easiest way to do it, assuming it's possible, would be to have some sort of news feed to the mainsite news, and whatever other things we might add to that...

I like the idea overall, dunno how it could be implemented though, to work correctly, usefully, and most importantly, ot requiring us moderators and admins to keep changing it frequently by manually adding new stuff... :P

I was thinking more like a banner. semi-long but not very tall. Maybe an inch in height. Between Duke and the Pig-cop, just below Duke4.net/Forum Guidlines/forums/ Calendar/ or beside "Duke4.net forums. Between "logged in as" and "welcome back"
Though location is up to the designer. Might be interesting to try out, if the mods/admins don't like it, then simply throw it out.

WEll like i said, i personally love the idea to bring the attenntion of worthwhile things to the viewer like that, but it's more a matter of how much a bother it'll be to us, haha... IF we can add some kind of automatic news feed that only rarely requires manual adjustments, then i guess it's no big deal... Of course it also needs to look like part of the website, and not stand out too much to be mistaken as an Ad-banner... Because then people will just try and avoid it instead...

If the Banner matches the two forum themes.. I think it should be okay. But yeah, it would require quite a bit of upkeep and you guys have your hands full with the homepage/updates and taking care of the forums. Most of the messages would just rotate. And most of them would actually stay. Since things like "click here for the FAQ" or "Check out our Duke3d walkthrough" ..they don't need to be changed.

Noooo don't avoid the ad banners, I get money every time someone clicks one of those damn ads. :P

You guys can only click on the ads if you see something that actually legitimately interests you, and you can only click on one or two of them per IP address you have. Yatta got banned from AdSense for invalid clicks somehow once before and I'm really paranoid about it now. :P I wish I could just tell people to click on them over and over but that's not fair to the advertisers, and Google isn't stupid. Not looking to defraud anyone here, just wanna make a few bucks so I don't feel so broke. Ha.

I would even say regular visitors to this forum might possibly consider running Adblock Plus so you aren't even tempted to click the ads. :P

Wouldn't hurt to click once or twice. I mean I clicked each one of the ones at the bottom of the forums once. but that's.. not for you is it?

The ones from Google are mine, the other line of 4 links in a row (usually credit counseling and consolidation) is Yatta's. I don't know if he gets paid per click or not, I think he gets a flat monthly rate for them.

I got banned from Adsense too, but I think they caught on to some other tomfoolery. I had a SEO mod installed so the forum generated nice looking "HTML" links which the Search engine spiders gobbled up. According to Adsense, I had something like 70,000 unique pages and I got between $1 and $1.50 cents per click. They canned me when my 2nd month payout was like $200 .

Yeah more or less I guess. I'd have to dig up the email I got when they canned me, they said something about unauthorized practices. Which is weird because any decent forum that cares about search engine hits uses a SEO mod. It's not like I was the first person to do it. I guess I was just more successful than they planned!

That's ... pretty messed up. Did you look through the code of conduct/rules/disclaimer?
Ps. TX, enjoy the like... 5 cents? from my two clicks. :P

I actually have a giant list of blocked low cost ads as AdSense allows you to block specific ad domains using their "competitive filter". I've seen clicks that are worth about a buck a piece, and some that are only worth about 5 cents... I try to have it only serve the worthwhile ads; if they weren't paying enough I would just as soon not run them because ads look dumb. We don't get many clicks at all (less than 60 for the few days these Google ads have been running) but my account balance is already about 24 bucks. :P

They probably flag any account that has a poor click to sales ratio, and then try to come up with an excuse to ban them.

Can we have an edit timer so that a post does not say it is edited unless it has been at least two minutes since you posted it? Sometimes I notice a typo right after I post and fix it immediately, and it's annoying when the post shows it is edited, even though no one has had a chance to read it yet.

This post is a good example.

Woah, what happened to the nice looking clean colour scheme? I come to Duke4 today and it's almost completely dark with some non-fitting colours thrown together..

I thought the original design was great, not sure why it has to be changed now. Is it that sites are only cool if they're dark?

It looks unfinished so I'm not going to say much until someone posts that it's finished.

I'm guessing TX was experimenting with the style sheets (we have two themes) but everything seems normal now.

BTW--thanks for posting your thoughts here. I like it when I see activity in the Website Feedback forum section. :o

I'd also like to agree with wishing to have an 'edited by' timer on posts. I post from work 99% of the time so I tend to either rush things or make typos due to the less than desirable keyboard I use (and phone calls or customers hanging around). I come back a moment later and realise I've made a mistake or worded something wrong but, even if it's within 30 seconds, that little 'edited by' bit comes up.

I'm assuming most users here should be familiar with this forum software (and just about every other kind), and know about the theme change drop-down box at the bottom left of the screen. If not, there you go. I like the new theme, but personally I don't like browsing dark themed forums any more - the lighter the better these days.

Btw, the dark skin still has its problems with smiles.
