My DAW does that in realtime (Sonar). Others probably do as well.

@Mark; You should have a Key Transpose button, probably below program button 4 and 5. Obviously the Octave button will shift an entire octave up or down. The Transpose only shifts up one key at a time. If you're using a sequencer of some kind, whether hardware or software, they usually have a transpose option of some kind. In my case CakeWalk 9 has a column labelled "Key" which serves that purpose though I've only ever used it to move things in blocks of 12 (Octave) when I've accidentally had them play out of range due to being lazy and moving things to silly places on the piano roll to make them easier to see.

As for the PM system, take it up with the mods/admins. It's locked and no amount of me mentioning it has put it right, the only people it inconveniences is everyone else because people have to make off topic posts in threads or sign up on other sites to talk to me. It's all a bit silly really as I'm starting to feel like they're ignoring my requests for a fix, almost tempted to wire up a second account and see how quickly they notice then.

The program I'm referring to takes the Cascio's keyboard presses and turns all notes into a scale of your choice and sends it back out from the computer to the keyboard in real time. That way every key on the keyboard is in the scale. For instance I could have the first octave of consecutive keys play the A minor scale, the next octave of consecutive keys an C minor, etc...

Stuff like that really takes the fun out of actually knowing how to write music. Sounds like cool software though.

Nope, never encountered such a program.

My use for it way back in the 80's was for playing, not composing. Same thing now. I'm still choosing what notes of the scale to play so there is some creativity still happening. It just keeps an amateur like myself from hitting wrong notes. :( But, enough of my OT posts. Thanks for the replies.

Glad you're enjoying them. :(

Worked on a bit if Heretic last night. That one takes a little bit more time because I think the score is best played on an SC-55 MKII (which has extra polyphony), because sometimes some notes are cut off. So in some cases I have to record some instruments separately and mix them all in afterward so that every note sounds.

Either that or Kevin Schilder wasn't being careful about how many notes were playing at once nor testing it properly to make sure it came out right with hardware.

Looks like someone got in contact with Kevin and it sounds like he used an Ensoniq TS-10 for the sound track. That could explain why you're having trouble with it.

Interesting! Thanks for that!

I have a feeling the more soundtracks I record the less there will be that were actually composed and/or engineered for (whether before or after the fact) the SC-55. Still, these games supported the SC-55 and I'll keep making soundtracks (as time allows) for as many of those games as I can.

Just got the answer from Mr. Lee Jackson himself, he says he used GUS MAX for ROTT, GUS MAX & Roland RAP-10 for Duke3D (And SC-88 for Grabbag).
(I hope it's okay that I share this info...)
This applies only to LJ tracks, not BP. I haven't asked BP yet :)

The RAP-10 is basically an SC-55 with the capital tones only (without the extra GS banks that the actual SC-55 has). It's an ISA card version of the SC-7. So a sort of "Sound Canvas Lite".

Just wanted to let everyone know I'm over half finished recording the TNT soundtrack now (17/35 tracks complete). It'll be nice to finally be done with the Doom soundtracks and get them out to you guys :). Then it's on to Heretic and Hexen. I apologize for the wait. RL things are hard to ignore, but the amount of time between releases has been ridiculous. Hope you enjoy them when they're done!

Great news! Do you have any plans to redo your older packs such as the Duke addons with your newer methodology (FLAC, an external recording interface, loop points, optional dynamic range compression, maybe more I missed)?

fastway.flac pls

Short answer, yes. I've flagged the older music packs on my site that have abrupt endings without metadata loop tags.

Doom TNT/Final Doom SC-55 music pack released! Enjoy!

EDIT: As usual, I spoke too soon. Looks like every track was played back too slowly, which means I have to rerecord everything and calculate new loop tags...oops.

EDIT 2: Fixed.

thx for the updated versions.... but is there a reason why you didn't include a def file in your duke nukem 4.0 packs (flac and mp3) ?

You shouldn't need a def file for the FLAC or Ogg Vorbis packs to work. Just extract all the files to a folder named music. If you don't want problems with the expansions, make that music\duke3d.

I thought I had included a DEF. I used to anyway. It's been so long now. Must have been some reason why I didn't this time around.

So there was yet another problem with TNT. The D_EVIL/D_DM2INT track was played back too slowly still so I had to redo it again. And D_DDTBL2 was missing a whole instrument. I urge whoever had downloaded already to redownload once more please! Sorry! Should be good now.

Slight update.

I wanted to do something about Plutonia because it has a unique tracklist but it just reuses music from Doom and Doom 2. I didn't want to make new packs and upload what I essentially already have on my website, so what I did was create a batch script to generate a Plutonia music pack automatically. All you have to do is create a new folder, dump a set of Doom and Doom 2 music packs in (doesn't matter which, it'll automatically look for whichever set of ZIP files you got from my website, be it MP3, OGG, FLAC, raw, or boosted), unpack the plutonia_script.zip file and run plutoniamusic.bat. It will automatically pull the required tracks from the Doom/Doom 2 music pack ZIPs, rename each track appropriately, repackage them all into a new zipped Plutonia music pack, and clean up after itself. If it doesn't find any zipped music packs or if it already sees a Plutonia music pack in the folder it'll just cancel. It's best to make a brand new folder just to rule out the risk of accidental deletion of files you may want to keep. It should be pretty idiot proof, but it's just a good habbit to have anyway.

Doom: The Plutonia Experiment music pack batch script

Being a batch script, however, it obviously only works in Windows. The package includes the batch script and the 7zip command line tool. Both are required for it to work properly.

I personally use this http://doomwiki.org/...tonia_MIDI_Pack but that's a great option to have too! :)
