Realms Deep 2020  "New gaming event organised by 3D Realms"

With the presence of Romero, I have the feeling there might be an anouncement for a Daikatana remake, However/although I am not betting or holding my breath over it...

I think because of its nature (being an event with multiple announcements, maybe some of which won't be game related) that this deserves its own thread.

So what's the deal with Apogee and 3D Realms being two separate entities now? Is it just that two different groups own them? I know a Danish group bought the 3D Realms name, but nothing more in-depth than that.

3DRealms brand is owned by the Danish group, complete with the games that 3DR still owns.

Apogee Software - the brand, the logo and some of the titles is owned by Terry Nagy, the old associate of Scott Miller. He was one of the co-authors of Supernova (the text adventure from 87) and apparently had ties with Apogee since it's early days.
Nagy's Apogee apparently owns the ROTT franchise as they published the ROTT 2013, but 3DR is allowed to sell the original game though. Like they're separate entities but also work together frequently.

I'm pretty sure there have been "two Apogees" for a while. One is an LLC and one is something else I think? More particularly, one is actually 3D Realms, and the other was started a while back and was serving to be the label for the Duke Nukem Nintendo DS trilogy and PSP games (this was before the old 3DR was shut down and the Duke license transitioned to Gearbox). It never did much of anything else AFAIK. I don't know if that's the same Apogee they're talking about now.

It's funny that this is an Apogee fansite and we don't even really know lol.

It's more that no one fucking cares because all these shell companies are basically scams.

Scams in what way? As long as the games are fun I'm a happy customer and I don't care. Admittedly, I've only played Ion Fury so far, though. But I'm really excited to play Wrath. The music of Ghostrunner alone sounds great to me.

I mean have you ever read Masters of Doom? Apogee/3DR has always been pretty fly-by-night.

Sure. I couldn't stand them starting out. I don't think I can ever forgive them for screwing up the Duke3D betas, HTTKC, and losing the entire classic Duke collection to Randy by trying to develop a top-down Duke Nukem shooter that nobody wanted or asked for. They seemed to have found a groove now, though, by just letting talented developers make games and publishing them. Which is exactly what oldschool Apogee used to do.

The reason I mention Masters of Doom is that this pattern of behaviour isn't new. It's how the companies have always operated. Birds of a feather flock together.

In the trailer at 0:22, I think you can see a scene of "The Adventures of Square". Is Jimmy going commercial with this now or what?

There's a bit of Ion Fury there ,just old footage, are we getting some news?, maybe dlc :)

I'm not sure, it could be just an announcement for Episode 3.

Even if it's ep.3, what does it do in the trailer? Square is a standalone Doom mod, for free. I hope this doesn't mean ep.3 is commercial only. Maybe a special pimped edition with some extras?

The Blood ad made me irrationally angry, but overall it was entertaining. I've been listening to In The Keep and I genuinely thought the kid was like 15 based on his voice. It's cool they included him in this in such a major way, though, despite the relatively little attention his podcast gets. It seems like a lot of people are getting chances by these retro fps publishers. No better time to be developing a game like that.

I though strange that the Blood Fresh Supply advertising was appearing here, knowing it have been released for more than a year...

Lets see what we will get Day 2 with John Romero

Crystal Caves HD...I'm not sure what to think about this...But you know, I'm thinking if something like that is getting a remake, maybe a Blake Stone sequel is in the cards.

I was expecting more of an upgrade like this honestly. But it's not bad.

I'm watching the day 1 on youtube right now. Can't say that I like the cheesy act the 3DR guys are doing, but I guess no show can do without it. Also, I didn't like some of the "guests" (like that doomer girl or whatever her nickname, the one presenting Ultrakill), but again, there'll always be something that won't satisfy everyone.
Overall, it's pretty nice, learned of some new games that I now wanna play, saw some interesting interviews, and some stuff like the E1M1 magazine.

The way they announced the Rise of the Triad "remaster" is so fucking cringe and scripted. I swear to God, every time they do something I find new levels of hatred for this company.

I just don't get why they thought that was good idea at all... :)

But they even gave no timestamp code for their Realms Deep videos(I don't have time to watch both 2 and 4 hours videos, have to keep fast forwarding until I found that "small" part about the official RotT source port...and I feel just nothing interesting after watched that part...really?) so I'm not surprised.
At least they put the "UP NEXT" for clue but only main shows.

Show something that really make people feel interesting about your game or something or it just showed your guys not so care(I'm not say "don't care", that's more like "cared but not enough") about that. ;)

This forums is like 90% negativity. Can you please stop and try to be a bit positive? When you work your ass of and want to read a bit about gaming, you enter this site and get to read all this sad shit. Come on, you guys are all +25 at least in age. Try to stay a bit positive atleast. Just once in a while.

Here's something positive: Thank God they didn't remake ROTT 2013.

Well, were being positive but guess what? I bought RotT 2013 and it was the first game I had intention to refund...I expected and being positive too much I guess. ;)

Yeah, I did expected something different when they announced something for RotT a while ago(didn't like how they did but still, were hoped something), then we got official RotT 95 port and it's not bad idea for sure -- RotT 95 needed more ports --, BUT, the problem is how they announced/showed their port.

If I want to be negative, I won't even post my negative shit to let you complain that at all, just give up and say nothing then leave... :)
