Oh my, how things have changed

I compared the Blood bonus map from my old GraveyardTC in the original eduke32 revision 4376 and 8573 from a few months ago. I found a difference in level brightness/visibilty, mouse responsiveness and framerate. I didn't play any more than the first starting crypt area to see if more differences could be found.

In the newer revision level was too bright, mouse had sluggish sensitivity and framerate was massively lower and the player looks up at the ceiling at map start. The first 2 could be compensated for with adjustments in menus but the framerate hit there is nothing to do but live with it. 125 fps in the old version, 45 fps in the new in the start area. I've brought this issue up before with my other Polymer projects and had mixed results after doing a lot of test maps by myself and with someone else.

I'm not asking that anything be done about any of this. The post was just a comment on how things have changed over the years for me. There are more examples from other projects but I won't bore you any further with those. ;)

Edit: What hasn't changed is my ruggedly handsome good looks.

Polymer is a rotting corpse. I have also noticed the huge drop in framerate compared to what it used to be.

What's the best polymer version#?

Me, I think High Treason, and 1 or 2 other guys said they stayed with 4593 for a long time. After that revision Polymer started having issues with normal and spec maps that lasted for a long time before getting fixed. They are better now but framerate has suffered. Best? I'm not sure. Other features were improved in newer revisions which make it a compromise.

Maybe someone could backport and maintain an old version of polymer with a few of these new fixes.

r5293, the one that came with the Decay mod, should be worth to be considered.

I proposed that some time ago. The devs were not amused. ;)

If you can figure out which revision made your content start performing poorly, I would be happy to look at it.

We would have used a much newer version than 5293 except that anything after that would occasionally glitch by showing a building interior thru the skybox when the player is outside.
It might still be an issue. I haven't checked it with a new revision in at least 6 months. I'll test for that again in a little while.

For TX to look at if you wish. https://forums.duke4...post__p__229019

From one of the few times the slowdown issue was brought up.

Also, the same couple of minor glitches in Decay are still present in newer revisions. I'm not worried about those in particular. They don't affect gameplay.
