Running 20th Anniversary World Tour's DUKE3D.GRP without the extra files  "What does it add?"

EDuke32 perfectly runs DUKE3D.GRP from 20th Anniversary World Tour.
But if all you take from that version is the GRP without all the extra files and folders, then the music still sounds different/upgraded. Alas, there's no access to Volume 5 and the new weapon.
Is there any benefit other than music to keep just the new GRP file? Is there any way to still access Volume 5 and the new weapon?

It's just that all those extra files and folders look like an overkill, when you're used to a single GRP file.

The groupfile simply just has the Atomic assets with a few adjustments. For compatibility reasons, to replace Atomic basically. There's no way to get World Tour fully running without external assets. Say thanks to Randy.

Nevertheless, what are the adjustments (other than music)?

The groupfile itself merely has any interesting changes. There's the fixed skycar from E1L1 with the removed pink pixels, then some modified menu screens with censorship, like changed credit card logos, removed 3DR credits, eliminated references to an ancient online service etc. Plus the censored health art (pills). With just the groupfile, you only have access to the original four episodes with no gameplay changes whatsoever, just visual stuff, i.e. the removed red crosses on items and some textures.

The rest is external, i.e. all the enhanced original maps with new lighting and some texture edits to go with it, the new episode, new art, sounds, music, skyboxes, normalmaps, code... none of this is in the groupfile. Theoretically you could put it inside, but since it only supports 8.3 filenames, you'd be in a world of pain to adjust all the necessary references in the code.

The better approach is rather to isolate all ep.5-specific stuff, put that together and have it as a separate addon, like I did with my extraction script for Raze. Btw no, it still won't work directly with EDuke32, at least not as far as I know.

The music sounds different, so I guess the new music is embedded in the GRP file and not in the external files.

Lee's remastered music files are all external. These are hundreds of MB in size and would bloat the groupfile a lot. You only get MIDI music with the groupfile. That's why it sounds different.

How about a way to just make EDuke32 understand all of the external files (not just ep.5 specific stuff) are in, let's say, c:\20th\?
Because the current approach of merging EDuke32 and all the external files into 1 folder (with its subfolders) for EDuke32 to work with 20th, is not too efficient.
